Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You take a position in favour of tall apartment blocks, stating, “I agree with this statement,” and give relevant reasons, including housing for workers and families moving to cities for jobs, education and hospitals. However, these points are mostly asserted rather than explained with specific examples or clear reasoning; the claim that one building can house “500 peoples,” for instance, is not developed. The discussion of disadvantages is promised in the introduction but not actually provided, and some statements, such as “cities should not to provide enough homes,” make your position difficult to follow. The response is 240 words, so it is 10 words below the required minimum. Develop your reasons and support them with a concrete example to address the task more fully.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

Your response has a recognisable introduction, body paragraphs and conclusion, and the ideas generally relate to housing in cities. You also attempt to signal relationships with phrases such as “On the other side” and “Conculation.” However, progression is difficult to follow because several points are repeated—for example, the benefits for workers and outsiders appear in both body paragraphs and the conclusion—while links between ideas are sometimes unclear. The sentence “On the other side cities should not to provide enough homes” does not clearly connect to the argument. Organise each paragraph around one distinct reason, explain it in sequence, and use linking expressions only when their relationship is clear.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

You use basic vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “apartment blocks,” “jobs,” “families,” “renting” and “buying,” so the general subject is usually identifiable. However, the range is limited and several words or phrases are repeated, particularly “tall apartments,” “people shift to cities” and “benefits.” Frequent spelling errors, including “belive,” “benifical” and “envairmental,” also reduce clarity and control. Some choices are imprecise, such as “production” for the construction or development of housing and “valuable” when you appear to mean affordable or suitable. Build a more accurate topic vocabulary and check spelling; this will help you express your reasons without relying on repeated basic phrases.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

You attempt both short statements and longer sentences with reasons, using forms such as “because” and “so,” but sentence structures are mostly simple and errors occur frequently. Examples include “Population of cities day by day increased,” “Build a new apartments have many advantages,” and “Any building carry estimated 500 peoples are leaved here.” These show problems with verb forms, subject–verb agreement, articles, plurals and sentence construction. Commas also sometimes separate clauses incorrectly, as in “I agree with this statment because, its a very good opartunity.” Practise building accurate simple sentences first, then combine them with correctly formed clauses. Check each sentence for a clear subject and verb, and for singular or plural agreement.
