Student answer (Band 5.0)

the best way to provide enough homes in large cities is to build tall apartments blocks. it is a hot topic to debate on some people may agree and other disagree with this idea. i would disagree with this statement because in my opinion it has more flaws then benefits.

firstly i would like to share disadvantages of having tall apartments in cities.one of the major drawback is that the owner purchasing an aprtment do not have a proper land it is not a land ownership basically.secondly apartments are constructed on per sqare feet which is not suitable for larger families most of the apartmemts are just for smaller families.

moreover in case of emergency its hard to escape from apartments as compared to homes.

althought i agree that it is easy to manage more people in apartments the, it covers less land as compared to homes.

now if we talk about homes it provides strees free and safe enivroment but requires more space.land ownership is dirctly transfered to its owner. they have a physically existing thing in there ownership.homes are expensive to puchase as compared to apartments as well.

both apartmens and homes have their own drawbacks but if we make a balance between these two is most appopriate solution for this debate. people who are comfortable with apartments should go for apartemnts and rest should buy homes to spend a comfortable life.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You give a clear overall disagreement and offer relevant comparisons, including land ownership, space for larger families, emergency access, and the lower land use of apartments. However, the response addresses the question only partially: it does not explain convincingly why tall apartment blocks are or are not the best way to provide enough homes, and the final suggestion that people should choose whichever housing they prefer does not resolve the city-wide issue. Several points are asserted rather than supported with reasons or examples. The response is also below the required 250 words: 14 words copied from the task prompt were not counted. Develop your central argument with specific examples and explain how each point affects housing supply.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, discussion of apartments, a comparison with homes, and a concluding statement. Sequencing words such as “firstly,” “secondly,” and “moreover” help signal the points. However, progression is uneven: the paragraph beginning “now if we talk about homes” shifts to advantages and disadvantages without clearly linking them to your position on providing enough city housing. Some connections are awkward or unclear, as in “although i agree that it is easy to manage more people in apartments the, it covers less land.” Paragraphing is limited, and several ideas are crowded together. Use clearer topic sentences and connect each paragraph explicitly to your main argument.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “land ownership,” “larger families,” “emergency,” and “comfortable life,” so the reader can follow the general subject. However, the range is limited and several expressions are imprecise or unnatural, such as “manage more people in apartments,” “stress free and safe environment,” and “physically existing thing in there ownership.” Spelling errors—including “aprtment,” “sqare,” and “enivroment”—are noticeable and reduce the accuracy of the writing. Try to use more precise housing and urban-planning terms, and check spelling carefully. A wider range of accurate collocations would help you express comparisons and consequences more clearly.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences, for example, “although i agree that it is easy to manage more people in apartments…” This shows some effort to vary sentence structure, but complex attempts are often faulty, and errors occur frequently enough to make parts difficult to read. Examples include “the owner … do not have,” where the subject and verb do not agree, and “homes it provides,” where the clause structure is incomplete. Missing sentence boundaries and inconsistent capitalisation also affect accuracy, as in the opening and the long sentence beginning “now if we talk about homes.” Practise building complete sentences with clear subjects and verbs, then check agreement, articles, plurals, and punctuation.
