Student answer (Band 5.5)

We all know that increasing in the number of population has becoming an serious issue day by day in mega cities. Government is facing mutliple problems to give equal resources to their citizens however the accomodation is till now a biggest problems in the urban areas.

In research, it is observed that a huge population in the city areas do not have any place to live so they have to spend their life in the streets or in public areas like parks. Intend to this making tall appartment blocks seems like the best solution to fulfill the accomodation need in large cities. By doing this we can easily meet to the need of every citizen. I completely agree with this because we know that in mega cities of the world the area is always not enough because people from small cities or from villages also starting to move into them although by doing this we can fulfill the need of more area in the cities.

I was get to know that Hongkong have a tiny area as compared to their population but when i did research in this topic i was impressed by the steps they have taken to fulfill this problem. Their plan is to build tall buildings all over the area they have. By this, they easily insrease their area to build appartments and offices which are required for their huge population. So, to answer your question i agree with the solution to make multistorey buildings to fulfill you city needs.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear: you completely agree that tall apartment blocks are the best way to provide homes in large cities. You address the issue of limited space and support your view with the example of Hong Kong, so the response stays relevant to the question. However, some points are asserted rather than fully explained. For instance, you say that building upwards can “meet to the need of every citizen,” but do not consider whether high-rise housing alone can provide enough suitable or affordable homes. The Hong Kong example is relevant, though it focuses on buildings and offices as well as apartments, and could be linked more directly to the provision of homes. Develop these points with clearer explanation and specific supporting detail.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has an overall progression from the housing problem, to your agreement, and then to the Hong Kong example and conclusion. Paragraphing helps distinguish the introduction from the supporting discussion, and phrases such as “By doing this” and “So, to answer your question” signal connections between ideas. At times, however, the links are mechanical or unclear. The sentence beginning “Intend to this” does not clearly show how the preceding problem leads to your proposed solution, and the long sentence about people moving from villages combines several points without a clear sequence. Use more precise referencing and divide complex ideas into shorter, logically connected sentences. A separate concluding paragraph would also make the final position easier to identify.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “population,” “resources,” “accommodation,” “urban areas,” and “multi-storey buildings,” which allows you to discuss the housing issue. There are also attempts at more specific language, such as “tiny area” and “fulfill this problem,” but some choices are inaccurate or unnatural and reduce precision. Spelling errors such as “mutliple,” “accomodation,” “appartment,” and “insrease” are noticeable, while repeated use of “need,” “area,” and “build” limits variety. Aim to use accurate collocations and vary key terms—for example, refer to housing demand, limited land, and high-rise residential development. Proofreading spelling and word forms would make your meaning more fluent and reliable.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including a conditional structure in “By doing this we can easily meet…” and a contrast introduced by “although.” This shows some range, but several grammatical errors affect clarity. For example, “increasing in the number of population has becoming” has problems with the subject and verb form; “a serious issue” needs the correct article; and “Hongkong have” has subject–verb disagreement. The sentence beginning “I was get to know” also uses an incorrect verb construction. Some sentences are long and join ideas in ways that make their relationships difficult to follow. Practise accurate verb forms, articles, agreement, and sentence boundaries, while retaining your attempts at complex structures.
