Student answer (Band 5.5)

Today, the population of the world is increasing rapidly. Most of the countries are facing various problems due to over-populated cities mostly which have the high number of oppurtunities in their city. Due to this problem, another problem arised, people do not have enough homes to live their. So, to overcome this problem, tall apartment blocks can be manufactured over the buildings. I agree with this suggestion and explain my opninion below.

Firstly, the people do not have enough resources to construct and live in one storey buildings. Main reason is that people do not have enough jobs to meet their daily expenditures. When they do not have enough money for their basic needs then how can they afford one storey home? For example, the countries like Pakistan, India, and Bangladesh which are developing countries, they do not have much money to provide the single building to each family.

Secondly, due to overpopulation in some cities, it is nearly impossible to to provide the homes to citizens. In Karachi, the most populated city of Pakistan, most of the people sleep in footpaths or in areas where it is hard to live their. Most of the people come to Karachi for seeking jobs, for business purposes from other cities of Pakistan and the other side of the country. So, tall building apartment are constructed their to provide the homes to people.

To sum up my point, it is good idea to construct the apartments over buildings to provide the homes to the people. Although, the benefits of one storey building are not negligible but at this era of fluctuation in economy, less jobs oppurtunities, hand to mouth to expenses and over-crowded cities, it is a good option to live in apartments with less expenses and managable way.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

Your position is clear: you agree that tall apartment blocks can help address housing shortages, and both body paragraphs relate to affordability and pressure from population growth. The Karachi example gives the discussion a relevant, concrete setting. However, the response only partly develops the question of whether tall blocks are the best way to provide enough homes. The first paragraph focuses on people’s limited income and the cost of single-storey homes, rather than explaining directly how high-rise construction increases housing supply or reduces costs. The second paragraph makes a relevant point about urban demand, but the claim that apartments are constructed there is not supported with detail. Develop the advantages more fully and consider a limitation or alternative before reaching your conclusion.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs signalled by “Firstly” and “Secondly,” and a concluding paragraph. This helps readers identify the main stages of your argument. However, progression within the paragraphs is sometimes unclear: the first moves from limited resources to jobs and then to national examples without fully connecting these points to tall apartment blocks. Some linking is mechanical, and “So” introduces a conclusion that does not follow clearly from the preceding details. The final paragraph repeats the main position but combines several points in a long sentence, making the relationship between them difficult to follow. Use clearer topic sentences and explain how each example supports the specific claim in its paragraph.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the general issue, including “overpopulation,” “daily expenditures,” “citizens,” and “apartments.” However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or awkward, which sometimes makes the meaning less clear. For example, “homes can be manufactured over the buildings” does not naturally describe constructing high-rise housing, and “hand to mouth to expenses” is difficult to interpret. There are also noticeable spelling errors, such as “oppurtunities,” “opninion,” and “managable.” Aim for precise housing and urban-planning terms, and check spelling carefully. More accurate phrases such as “housing shortage” and “high-rise apartment buildings” would make the argument clearer and more appropriate to the task.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including a conditional question such as “When they do not have enough money for their basic needs then how can they afford one storey home?” However, control is inconsistent, and errors in sentence structure and grammatical forms sometimes make the reader work to understand the point. For example, “people do not have enough homes to live their” has an incorrect construction, while “it is nearly impossible to to provide the homes” contains a repeated infinitive marker. The sentence beginning “Although, the benefits…” is not correctly connected to the main clause, and several sentences have unclear or awkward clause relationships. Practise building accurate complex sentences and check articles, verb patterns, and punctuation when joining clauses.
