Student answer (Band 5.5)

In this recent era, it is often argued that due to rising number of individuals in the urban areas there are not enough homes for them, so to mitigate this issue developing a tall apartment is a nice solution in major cities. However, i partly agree with this view because tall building have not enough safety measures for the residents if any natural calamities arrives.

One of the key reasons why i agree with this view is providing home f. To explain it further, there are many lower class people living in rural area which do not have a good money source. As a result, they have to come in big cities for good earning and improving their life and they have to rent a house and with this same mindset many individuals comes from rural area due to which the cities become overcrowded and there becomes shortages of houses so this tall building gives homes to many. Moreover, instead of making larger bungalow in which only one family stay, a taller building is much good option because it gives home for more than 50 or 60 families.

However, this trend have some negative impacts on the people. The key reason is safety. To detail it out, if natural calamities like fire or earthquake arrives so this tall building make it very difficult for families who are living at the higher floor and they have to use the stairs instead of the elevator and due to that they can lost their lives . For instance, a hotel catches fire on the first floor and it destroyed the whole floor so how can people can leave who are living on upper floors they can loss their lives if there are not safety measures.

Conclusively, although taller building allow large numbers of families to live. However, it makes difficult for the people who are living on the top floors if natural calamity arrives .

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear: you partly agree because apartment blocks can house many people, but you raise safety concerns. The response addresses both sides and gives relevant support, including the contrast between a tall building and a bungalow and the example of a fire affecting residents on upper floors. However, the safety argument is developed more fully than the housing solution, and the fire example is hypothetical and does not explain how common or preventable such risks are. The conclusion repeats the two points rather than clarifying when high-rise housing is an effective solution. To strengthen the response, explain how apartment blocks can provide homes efficiently while acknowledging practical safeguards, and develop the example with a clearer link to your position.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph supporting high-rise housing, a contrasting paragraph about safety, and a conclusion. This makes the main line of argument easy to follow. You also use signposts such as “Moreover,” “However,” and “Conclusively” to show relationships between ideas. At times, though, cohesion is mechanical or unclear. The opening of the first body paragraph, “One of the key reasons why i agree with this view is providing home f,” is incomplete, and the long sentence beginning “As a result” combines several stages of reasoning without clear breaks. The conclusion’s “although … However” construction also makes the relationship between ideas awkward. Use shorter, clearly linked sentences and ensure each paragraph begins with a complete topic sentence.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “overcrowded,” “shortages of houses,” “natural calamities,” and “safety measures.” There are also attempts to use more formal expressions, such as “mitigate this issue.” However, word choice and collocation are often inaccurate or repetitive, which limits precision: “a tall apartment” is less natural than “high-rise apartment blocks,” while “good money source” and “much good option” do not express the intended meanings idiomatically. “Tall building” is repeated frequently, and “natural calamities” is used where “natural disasters” would be more usual. Aim to learn vocabulary in common word partnerships and vary key terms, while checking word forms and spelling, including capitalising “I.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including clauses with “because,” “if,” and “although,” and the overall meaning is generally understandable. However, some errors in agreement, verb forms, articles, and sentence construction reduce accuracy. For example, “tall building have” needs a plural subject or singular verb, and “many individuals comes” should use a plural verb. In “if natural calamities … arrives,” the verb does not agree with its subject; “they can lost their lives” also has an incorrect verb form. The final sentence combines “although” with “However” in a way that disrupts the structure. Practise checking subject–verb agreement and verb forms, and divide long sentences into shorter units. More accurate complex sentences would make your argument clearer.
