To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 5.0)

The excellent way to provide enough homes in big cities involves building tall apartment blocks. It is often argued that people should live in appartments. I completly agree with the view because it can accommodate more peope. Good security is possible as building has single entrence.

The strongest argument of the view is that less less space is occupied. As in major cities land often limited and is very expensive. Developers can provide ultimate solution by Constructing High rise buildings. Providing homes to many people. For Example, In developed cites like London and Dubai, tall residential buildings are very common and they can accommodate 1000 of people. Providing much land free for roads, hospital, and others.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

You state a clear position—“I completely agree”—and give relevant reasons: tall buildings can house more people on limited urban land, and a single entrance may support security. However, the response addresses the task only partially because these points are asserted rather than explained or supported in enough detail. The London and Dubai example is relevant, but “accommodate 1000 of people” is not developed into a clear illustration, and the claim about freeing land for roads and hospitals needs explanation. The response also falls substantially short of the required 250 words, limiting the opportunity to develop your argument. Extend each reason with explanation and a specific example, and consider a counterpoint before concluding.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The ideas are grouped in a basic order: you introduce your agreement, then present land efficiency and examples. Linking phrases such as “The strongest argument” and “For Example” help signal the direction of the response. However, progression is limited, and several fragments interrupt the flow: “As in major cities land often limited” and “Providing homes to many people” do not form complete sentences. The final point about land for roads and hospitals is also attached without a clear link to the preceding example. Use complete sentences and develop one main idea at a time, with clear connections between the claim, explanation, and example.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some topic-relevant vocabulary, including “apartment blocks,” “land,” “developers,” and “high-rise buildings,” which makes your main argument understandable. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “provide enough homes” and “accommodate.” However, the range is limited and some choices or spelling errors reduce precision: “ultimate solution” is an overstatement, “1000 of people” is not the natural expression, and “cites” appears where “cities” is intended. Repetition of “provide” and “people” also limits variety. Aim for accurate collocations and more precise terms, such as “housing capacity” or “urban land,” and check spelling carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

Your response communicates its basic meaning through mostly simple sentence patterns, and the opening gives a clear statement of your position. However, the range is limited, and errors in sentence formation and grammar occur often enough to affect fluency. For example, “As in major cities land often limited” lacks a complete clause, while “Providing homes to many people” and “Providing much land free…” are fragments. The sentence “Good security is possible as building has single entrence” also needs clearer article use and sentence structure. Practise combining ideas into complete sentences, using accurate articles and verb forms, and punctuating introductory phrases such as “In major cities” and “For example.”
