Student answer (Band 5.0)

"The topic illustrates that building tall apartment blocks is an effective way to provide more homes in large cities. Nowadays, many people move to large cities because they offer better opportunities and facilities. As a result, the demand for housing is increasing.

First of all, building tall apartment blocks has many advantages. Many families can live in different flats within one building. There are also apartment blocks in cities such as Lahore and Multan. Some residential apartments are located near universities, which makes accommodation more convenient for students. Furthermore, apartment buildings can provide facilities such as internet, electricity and water. Many young people and families can benefit from these facilities.

However, there are also some disadvantages to building tall apartment blocks. Some apartments have high rents and additional expenses. Students may find it difficult to afford these costs. Sometimes, internet problems can disturb their assignments and presentations. Moreover, some residential apartments may have hygiene problems, such as unpleasant smells from shared washrooms. Some appartments have too much security.People do not have give too much secutiry.Because some fessess of universty also well demanding and high. So,students do not able to give so much secrity as compares to homes. There were a lot of families are present in flats. Many homes like apartments present in build tall apartment blocks.

In conclusion, building tall apartment blocks is an effective way to provide enough homes in large cities. In my opinionit is a good solution, but rent, maintenance and other facilities should be managed properly".

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You give a clear overall view in the conclusion, calling tall apartment blocks “a good solution,” and you mention relevant points such as housing demand, proximity to universities, facilities, rent and maintenance. However, the response only partially addresses the question: it does not explain why this is the best way compared with alternatives, and several points—especially the discussion of security and university fees—are difficult to connect to the central issue. The advantages and disadvantages are listed but rarely developed with explanation or specific support. The response is also 11 words below the 250-word minimum; the eight words copied from the task prompt are not counted. Develop a smaller number of relevant reasons and explain how each supports your position.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, a paragraph presenting advantages, a paragraph presenting disadvantages and a conclusion. Basic signposting such as “First of all,” “However” and “In conclusion” helps readers follow the broad direction. However, progression within the body paragraphs is weak: the discussion shifts from rent and internet problems to security, university fees and families without clear links. The sentence “Some apartments have high rents and additional expenses” is followed by points that do not consistently build on it. There is also a missing space after “washrooms.” and the final paragraph is very brief. Group related ideas together and use clear explanations or references to connect each point.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough basic vocabulary to communicate the general topic, including “demand for housing,” “residential apartments,” “facilities” and “maintenance.” Some topic-related terms are appropriate, and the meaning of the main position is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several expressions are repetitive or imprecise, particularly repeated uses of “apartment blocks,” “homes” and “facilities.” Spelling errors such as “appartments,” “secutiry,” “universty” and “secrity” make parts of the disadvantages paragraph harder to understand. Some phrases, including “give too much security” and “too much security,” do not express the intended idea clearly. Build a more accurate range of housing-related vocabulary and check spelling and collocations carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You produce some clear simple sentences, such as “As a result, the demand for housing is increasing,” and use a few longer structures with clauses, including “which makes accommodation more convenient for students.” However, the range is limited, and attempts at more complex sentences are often faulty. Examples include “People do not have give too much secutiry,” “students do not able to give,” and “There were a lot of families are present,” where verb forms and sentence construction are incorrect. The final sentence also lacks a space in “In my opinionit.” These errors sometimes make the intended meaning difficult to follow. Practise forming complete clauses with accurate auxiliaries and verb patterns, then proofread punctuation and spacing.
