Student answer (Band 5.5)

Aa far as I am concerned, I think building tall aparment blocks is the best way to provide homes in large city. In big cities there are a large numer of people living at the same city so it become very difficult for people to find place to live.So instead of making there own house .I think bying an apartment block in a tall building is better than making your own house. It will have several benefits .For example I have my own apartment in islamabad which is best place to live in Pakistan .I bought that apartment in 50 lac which cost me ery cheap If I bought ang ground house It was deginately costed me about 1 crore pke which id duoble to that apartment price. There is not only personal benefits but it also leads to environmental benefits.Like if 200 people are living in a big tall building which is about in 1 acre ground mean 200 perople occupy onlu 1 acre ground .However instead of this, If 200 persons make thier own house in there own private spaces it will lead to wail more ground than those who are living in buildings. It will also help to habitat and other species like wild animals and there home like forests. if more people willing to need more space to live people will cut forest make thhere homes. This will lead to decline of wild life. For example In India people do not prefer to live in buildngs so with the increasing population of India people are cutting the forest to make thier home to live so there things are declining the habitat for wild life in India. So according to me making buildings and living in the bulidings is better than making your own house.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear: you agree that tall apartment blocks are the best way to provide homes in large cities, and you give relevant reasons involving affordability, efficient land use and wildlife habitats. The Islamabad example makes the cost comparison more concrete, while the discussion of forests extends your argument beyond personal benefits. This addresses the task, but some points are less fully developed than others. For instance, the claim that people in India do not prefer buildings is broad and would be more convincing with a specific, reliable example or explanation. You could also acknowledge a limitation of high-rise living and explain why its benefits still outweigh it.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable progression: it introduces your view, then discusses personal affordability and environmental effects, before concluding that apartment living is preferable. Paragraph breaks help distinguish the main reasons. However, links between ideas are sometimes mechanical or unclear. Phrases such as “There is not only personal benefits but it also leads to environmental benefits” and “However instead of this” do not connect the comparison smoothly. Some sentences also contain several ideas without clear boundaries, making the reasoning harder to follow. Use a clearer topic sentence for each paragraph, develop one point at a time, and use pronouns or linking phrases with precise references to improve the flow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “apartment blocks,” “environmental benefits,” “private spaces,” “forests” and “wild life,” so the main ideas are generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several words or phrases are repeated, particularly “people,” “house” and “building.” There are also noticeable spelling and word-choice problems, such as “aparment,” “numer,” “wail more ground” and “declining the habitat,” which can make the reader pause or infer your meaning. Aim to learn accurate collocations for housing and urban growth, and proofread spelling. More precise terms such as “land use,” “housing costs” and “habitat loss” would help express your points efficiently.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a conditional comparison beginning “If 200 people are living…” and a reason clause about forest loss. This shows an effort to explain relationships between ideas. However, control is inconsistent, and errors in sentence structure, agreement, articles and punctuation sometimes make the meaning difficult to follow. For example, “there are a large numer of people living at the same city so it become” has problems with agreement and sentence boundaries, while “If 200 persons make thier own house” does not maintain a clear grammatical pattern. Review subject–verb agreement, articles and plural forms, and separate run-on sentences with full stops. Practising accurate complex sentences will improve clarity.
