Student answer (Band 6.5)

It is often considered that the most effective way to provide enough accomodation in the urban areas is to build towering buildings. I partially agree with this view since building tall buildings in the urban areas will only solve half of the problem but not entirely reaching to a meaningful solution.

Admittedly, building tall accomodations in urban areas would provide settlements to a good number of individuals. This in long run will limit some sorts of pollution which is associated with congestion of people in a small area for example, noise, water and air pollution. For example, the government of Kenya has an ongoing project of affordable housing which the structure is build in such a way that it is tall enough to accommodate a good number of individuals. This project is being administered in every town in each part of the country. building such structures ensures accomodations to many individuals as well as reducing many forms of pollution associated with slums.

However, solving a problem of housing by building tall buildings will not curb obstacles being experienced by majority of the citizens entirely. For example, the route cause of congestion in cities is due to unemployment caused by rural to urban migration. The state should stalize lives of those people leaving in countryside so as yo minimize the number of people moving to urban areas. For example, the government should improve education sector in rural areas, infrastructure as well as healthcare. By doing this, there would be a reduction in number of people moving to cities in search of better social amenities since yhe village will offer.

In conclusion, although building towering buildings is essential in reducing congestion in the cities,i believe that the state should look into stabilizing the lives of yhose people living in rural areas as well as offering job opportunities to them hence this will reduce rural to urban migration.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear: you partially agree that tall apartment buildings can help, but argue that rural development and employment are also needed. You address both sides and support them with relevant examples, including Kenya’s affordable-housing project and improvements to rural education, infrastructure and healthcare. This gives the response a solid, relevant foundation. Some points, however, are less fully explained than others. The link between tall buildings and reduced pollution is asserted rather than demonstrated, and the claim that unemployment is the root cause of urban congestion needs clearer reasoning. To strengthen the response further, explain how each proposed measure would increase housing availability or reduce demand, and develop the examples with more specific detail rather than broad claims such as the project operating “in every town.”

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The response has a clear overall progression: an introduction states your position, the body paragraphs present the benefits and limitations of tall buildings, and the conclusion restates your view. Paragraphing is appropriate, and signposts such as “Admittedly,” “However,” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the argument. The main improvement is to make connections between ideas more precise and less formulaic. For instance, the shift from housing provision to pollution in the first body paragraph needs a clearer explanation of how the two are related. Some examples also run together because punctuation and spacing are inconsistent, making the progression harder to follow. Use linking phrases selectively, and ensure each paragraph develops one central point through explanation and evidence.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “urban areas,” “congestion,” “rural to urban migration,” and “social amenities,” and these choices make your main ideas clear. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “the most effective way” and “stabilizing the lives.” However, some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or imprecise: “tall accommodations” and “provide settlements” do not naturally describe housing, while “route cause” appears to mean “root cause.” Spelling errors such as “accomodation” and “stalize” also reduce accuracy. Aim for natural, precise combinations such as “provide housing,” “high-rise apartment blocks,” and “address the underlying causes.” Proofreading for spelling and repeated use of “tall buildings” would improve control.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex structures, including a conditional sentence (“If…”) and clauses introduced by “since,” “although,” and “as well as.” This gives the response some variety, and the overall meaning is generally understandable. Some grammatical errors remain, particularly in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence construction. For example, “the structure is build” should use a past participle, and “the village will offer” is left without a clear object or completed idea. The opening sentence also has an awkward construction in “but not entirely reaching to a meaningful solution.” Review sentence boundaries and punctuation, especially where examples begin, and check that each clause has a complete, grammatically consistent structure.
