Student answer (Band 6.5)
In the contemporary world, there has been an ongoing debate on whether metropolitan cities should construct more high-rise buildings to accomodate families, or whether horizontal buildings could be beneficial. From my perspective, there are both the advantages and disadvantages of vertical blocks and I partialy agree with the former statement only if sufficient facilities are ensured within the building.
To analyze the statement and further explaining, the first and the foremost reason why I support the notion is that as the population is increasing considerably these days and providing enough homes in large apartment blocks is becoming a practical approach. To further explain, a single high-rise building can accomodate large number of families making it far more effective solution. For instance, many people migrate to bigger cities for the sake of better employment opportunities, and cannot afford to buy a home. So, living in an apartment is likely to be more convenient and affordable alternative. However, this is also leading to a congested life in the urban areas.
On contrary, undoubtedly living in an over-crowded place also comes with lots of drawbacks. Firstly, the infrastructure of the building is likely to get out-dated if not improved annually. Consequetly, there would be more chances of collapse of buildings. Furthemore, it becomes difficult to evacuate the building in case of emergencies, such as floods or earthquakes. In addition, life in an apartment is far more isolated than in the homes. People barely share greetings or interact with their neighbours due to their busy routines. In this way, they are more likely to suffer depression and social anxiety. Additionally, there could also be difficulty in mobility, such as the disabled persons or the elderly people often find it hard to go outside from such huge buildings.
To sum up, although the construction of more vertical apartments has become a feasible solution to provide homes to enough families, I believe that such buildings should provide enough privileges such as, gyms, parks for children, and even basic healthcare facilities for emergencies in each floor. So that the families won't feel isolated living there.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
Your position is clear: you partially agree with high-rise housing, provided that adequate facilities are included. You address both the benefits and drawbacks, including housing more families, affordability, safety, isolation, and accessibility. These are relevant points, and the examples of migration to cities and emergencies help explain your reasoning. However, the response focuses more on the general advantages and disadvantages of apartment living than on why tall blocks are the best way to provide enough homes compared with alternatives. Some points, such as the risk of building collapse and the proposed facilities on each floor, would benefit from clearer explanation or support. This gives the response a solid, relevant argument, but not all ideas are developed equally or directly tied to the comparison in the prompt.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay has a clear overall structure: an introduction states your position, separate body paragraphs present benefits and drawbacks, and the conclusion restates your view. The progression from housing capacity to the disadvantages of dense apartment living is easy to follow. You also use a range of linking expressions, including “For instance,” “However,” and “In addition.” At times, though, these devices feel mechanical or are not used accurately: “On contrary” needs an article, and “To analyze the statement and further explaining” does not form a clear transition. The conclusion’s final “So that” fragment also weakens the ending. More precise links between each claim and the central question would make the progression smoother and cohesion less noticeable.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “high-rise buildings,” “employment opportunities,” “infrastructure,” “evacuate,” and “social anxiety.” These choices help communicate the main ideas, and some less common terms are attempted. However, several spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision, such as “accomodate,” “partialy,” “Consequetly,” and “Furthemore.” Some collocations are also awkward: “horizontal buildings,” “out-dated,” and “go outside from such huge buildings” do not sound natural in context. Repetition of “building,” “apartment,” and “people” also limits flexibility. Aim for accurate, natural combinations such as “low-rise housing,” “become outdated,” and “leave the building,” and check spelling carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You attempt a mix of simple and complex structures, including conditional phrasing (“only if sufficient facilities are ensured”) and clauses introduced by “although” and “such as.” Most of the argument remains understandable, but some grammatical errors occur. For example, “a single high-rise building can accomodate large number of families” is missing an article before “large number,” while “To analyze the statement and further explaining” combines incompatible forms. “So that the families won't feel isolated living there” is a sentence fragment, and “the disabled persons or the elderly people often find it hard to go outside” has an awkward grammatical construction. Review articles, parallel forms, and sentence boundaries, while continuing to use complex sentences with clearer control.
