Student answer (Band 6.5)
Many believe that building tall apartment blocks is the best way of ensuring sufficient accommodation to people living in large cities. In my opinion, it is correct to believe in this statement because tall apartment blocks allow the usage of vertical space of an area within a boundary more than the horizontal space; hence providing home to many families at within a small land area.
It often creates a pressure on land areas when a large number of people have to be accommodated. Building tall buildings may provide a practical solution to this problem. For example, a tall building can be multistoried. As a result, it can provide space efficiently to multiple families within the same plot. Whereas, a one floor house can only be home to one family. Needless to say, making the best use of vertical spaces by constructing tall buildings seem to be the obvious solution to limited horizontal ones.
One might argue that building large skyscrapers requires a huge amount of money and time. Some also think that many families living within a small area might feel suffocating. So, not all agree that this should be the best solution to the aforementioned problem.
Nonetheless, when the concern is to provide shelter to a large population in a dynamic city, the benefits of developing tall aparment complexes to provide shelter to a large group of city dwellers is unmatched.
In conclusion, although building tall buildings with apartments has some downsides, I find it to be the best way to allocate people within the limited spaces in a big city. Hence, I completely agree to the statement that it is the best way to provide adequate housing to people in these areas.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
Your position is clear from the introduction to the conclusion: you agree that tall apartment blocks are the best way to provide housing in large cities. The explanation of vertical space and the comparison with a one-floor house are relevant, and you acknowledge counterarguments about cost and residents feeling confined. However, these points are not developed equally. The counterarguments are mentioned but not answered in detail, and the final body paragraph largely repeats your position rather than adding a new reason or example. To strengthen the response, explain why the benefits outweigh the costs and discomfort, and support this with a specific example, such as how high-density housing can preserve land for services or green space.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The essay has a clear overall structure, moving from your position to supporting reasoning, a counterargument, and a conclusion. Paragraphing helps the reader follow this progression, and linking expressions such as “For example,” “As a result,” “Nonetheless,” and “In conclusion” make relationships between ideas clear. The main limitation is that some connections feel mechanical or repetitive: “Needless to say” restates the point about vertical space, while the paragraph beginning “Nonetheless” repeats the claim that tall complexes provide shelter without extending the reasoning. Develop that paragraph with a distinct supporting point, and use references such as “this approach” or “these concerns” to connect ideas more naturally.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of topic-related vocabulary, including “accommodation,” “multistoried,” “skyscrapers,” and “limited horizontal” space. These choices communicate the central argument, and you attempt some less common expressions. However, several phrases are awkward or imprecise, such as “usage of vertical space of an area within a boundary,” “feel suffocating,” and “allocate people.” There is also a spelling error in “aparment.” Aim for more natural collocations and precise wording, especially when describing housing and urban land use. For example, “make efficient use of limited land” is clearer than the lengthy description of vertical space, while “house residents” is more appropriate than “allocate people.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex forms, including a conditional clause (“when a large number of people have to be accommodated”) and a concession introduced by “although.” Meaning remains clear, but some grammatical errors occur. In the opening, “providing home to many families at within a small land area” has an unnecessary preposition and an incorrect singular noun; “providing homes for many families on a small area of land” would be more accurate. In “constructing tall buildings seem to be,” the subject requires “seems.” The phrase “the benefits … is unmatched” also has a plural subject with a singular verb. Review agreement, articles, and prepositions, and check sentence fragments or awkwardly attached clauses such as “hence providing.”
