Student answer (Band 6.0)

As the population is increasing in urban areas, the requirement for accomadation is also consequently increasing. Inorder to fit so many people in a big city, the best way is start building taller buildings.

With an increase in population, an infrasructure of a city is flexible in a way that it can fit a large group of people. People from urban areas are looking for better employment opportunities and life overall. As the population grows, the demand for accomadation grows simultaneously. So, as a solution taller apartment buildings are great solution. Through this way, many people would be able to give together under the same roof. It also enhances bonds with community for instance other people living in the same building as you. It creates strong bonds and a support from neighbors. It influences other communities, kids, families and etc.

Whereas, sometimes it can be hazardous to build tall apartment blocks, as they can easily wipe away if a natural disaster like earthquake occurs. In that situation, the whole building demolishes and can cause a huge loss to people who might possibily lose their homes and loves ones. Moreover, another disadvantage of building taller apartment blocks is that not every resident will cooperate with this idea, as they might not like the idea of an overpopulated society. Where they ge to face issues like loud noises. This solution to overpopulation might disrupts someone's peace.

I do agree with the statement, as building taller building will provide a home to people who are looking forward to build a life in a big city. Meanwhile, it may come with its own drawbacks, a middle ground could be built to satisfy the current residents of the building.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear: you agree that taller apartment buildings are the best way to provide homes, while acknowledging risks such as earthquakes and residents’ concerns about noise. The response addresses both the proposed solution and its drawbacks, and the points about urban population growth and housing demand are relevant. However, some ideas are less fully developed than others. For example, the claim that high-rise living strengthens community bonds is asserted without explaining how this happens, and the final suggestion of a “middle ground” is not made specific. Develop each main point with a clear explanation or a concrete example, and clarify how your proposed compromise would work, to make the argument more complete and persuasive.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph supporting apartment blocks, a paragraph discussing disadvantages, and a concluding position. Linking expressions such as “Whereas,” “Moreover,” and “Meanwhile” help signal relationships between ideas. However, some connections are mechanical or unclear. The sentence beginning “Where they ge to face issues” is a fragment, and the shift from earthquake risk to residents’ objections could be signposted more smoothly. The supporting paragraph also moves from housing capacity to community bonds without a clear explanation of the link. Use topic sentences to establish each paragraph’s focus, connect examples explicitly to the main claim, and ensure each sentence forms a complete, logically connected idea.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “population,” “employment opportunities,” “natural disaster,” and “overpopulated society,” and you attempt phrases such as “support from neighbors.” However, the range and precision are uneven, with repeated use of “building” and “people” and several inaccurate or awkward choices. For instance, “give together under the same roof” does not express the intended meaning, while “wipe away” and “demolishes” are not natural choices for describing a building’s collapse. There are also spelling errors, including “accomadation,” “infrasructure,” and “possibily.” Build a more precise set of housing and urban-planning terms, check spelling carefully, and choose collocations that fit the intended meaning.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including clauses introduced by “as” and “whereas,” and most of your meaning remains understandable. Some grammatical errors nevertheless reduce accuracy. Examples include “the best way is start building” (missing “to”), “a great solution” (missing article), and “it might disrupts” (incorrect verb form after “might”). “Where they ge to face issues” is an incomplete sentence, and “the whole building demolishes” uses an unsuitable verb structure for the intended meaning. Work on infinitives, articles, modal verb patterns, and complete sentence construction. Proofreading for punctuation and sentence boundaries will also help you express your ideas more clearly while retaining the range of structures you are attempting.
