The plans below show a college cafe before it was redesigned and how it looks now.
Student answer (Band 5.5)
The images show the cafe infrastructure before and after renovation. The buildings or commerical areas need to be redesigning to meet market values. So in my opinion, its very crucial to restructure it.
In the beginning the cafe had only one staff dinning room along with one serving area and after that they added separate portions for each meal which helps customers to have their food without any husstle. They have additional sitting plans these days to fascinate different kinds of customers. Some customers prefer to have dinning outside to feel fresh. For example old people prefer outside sitting to inside. They also added additional take away setup for people who just want to have their food at home. It is a great idea for people who are always in a hurry and want to save their time. Moreover, the toilet and dustbins are at the same spot and from my perspective there was no need to change it.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify that the café was renovated and mention several relevant changes, including takeaway food, outdoor seating, and the toilets and bins remaining in the same area. However, the response only partially reports the plans: it omits important features such as the new coffee bar and salad bar, the barbecue, and the replacement of the staff dining rooms. Some details are inaccurate: the original plan shows two staff dining rooms, not one, and the bins are now labelled recycling bins. Much of the response explains why changes might benefit customers rather than describing what the plans show; the claim about older people, for example, is not supported by the visual. Focus on an objective overview of the main changes and accurate comparisons to make the report more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a basic sequence, moving from an introduction to changes and then to a comment about the toilets and bins. Linking expressions such as “In the beginning,” “For example,” and “Moreover” help signal relationships between ideas. However, the progression is not consistently organised around the plans: several customer-focused opinions interrupt the description, and the changes are not grouped clearly into indoor and outdoor features or old and new arrangements. Some connections are also unclear, such as “after that they added separate portions for each meal,” which does not precisely explain the layout change. Use a concise overview followed by logically grouped comparisons, and make each sentence connect directly to a feature shown in the plans.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use some vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “renovation,” “serving area,” “take away setup,” and “outdoor sitting.” There is also an attempt to vary expression with phrases such as “in a hurry” and “save their time.” However, several choices are imprecise or unnatural for describing a plan: “cafe infrastructure,” “separate portions for each meal,” and “additional sitting plans” do not clearly name the facilities shown. Spelling errors such as “commerical,” “dinning,” and “husstle” are noticeable, while “fascinate” is not an appropriate verb for attracting customers. Use the labels from the diagram and practise accurate collocations for layout changes, facilities, and seating.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mixture of simple and longer sentences, including a relative clause in “which helps customers to have their food” and a conditional-style explanation about customers who are in a hurry. Meaning is generally understandable, but errors recur in sentence construction and punctuation. For example, “The buildings or commerical areas need to be redesigning” uses an incorrect verb form, and “its very crucial” needs an apostrophe and a more suitable sentence structure. There are also run-on sentences where a full stop or comma is needed, as in “market values. So” and “time.Moreover.” Work on accurate verb forms, sentence boundaries, and punctuation, while keeping longer sentences controlled rather than joining several ideas together.
