The plans below show a college cafe before it was redesigned and how it looks now.

Student answer (Band 5.0)

The picture shows a college cafe before re designing and the cafe design's today.

Overall, Cafe's today looks more huge and featuristic than before.

We can see the design of Cafe' today. available for indoor and outdoor Seating meanwhile the last design without outdoor. We also see some part such as Salad bar, barbecue, take a way food, recycling bin, hot meals and Coffee bar. While before designing only had serving area, Staff room, toilet and bin.

We can conclude that today's design is more intersting and become more comfortable for everyone who visit the cafe.

I suggest after redesigning done, it's better to develop marketing team so it can get more visitors and make more profit ahead.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify the broad change from an indoor-only café to one with outdoor seating, and mention several new facilities, including the salad bar, barbecue and coffee bar. However, the response only partially reports the plans: it gives few precise comparisons about what stayed the same or where features are located, and it does not explain that the kitchen and toilets remain in place or that the central seating area is retained. The overview that the current café is “more huge” and “more comfortable” is evaluative rather than a clear summary of the main physical changes. The response is also 32 words below the required minimum, limiting the detail you can provide. Describe the key changes accurately and objectively, then support them with specific comparisons.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a basic overall shape: an opening, an overview, and a paragraph listing features. This gives the reader some sense of the topic, and “While before designing…” attempts to contrast the two plans. However, the ideas do not progress clearly from the main changes to supporting details; the list of facilities is not organised by location or by what changed and what remained. Linking is also limited and sometimes awkward, as in “We can see…” and “We also see…”. The final suggestion about developing a marketing team is unrelated to describing the plans and interrupts the report’s focus. Group the changes logically, use clear comparisons, and omit personal recommendations.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some task-related vocabulary, including “outdoor seating”, “salad bar”, “recycling bin” and “serving area”, so the reader can identify several features. However, the range is limited and some choices are inaccurate or informal for a plan description. “More huge” is not a natural way to describe the redesign, while “featuristic” is unclear; “more extensive” or “includes more facilities” would be more suitable. “Take a way food” should be written as “takeaway food”, and “Staff room” does not precisely match the labelled staff dining rooms. Repeated general phrases such as “some part” also reduce precision. Use the labels from the plans and vocabulary such as “was replaced by”, “was added” and “remained unchanged” to report changes clearly.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt a few different sentence forms, including a contrast with “While before designing…” and a concluding sentence beginning “We can conclude that…”. However, grammatical errors occur frequently and sometimes make relationships between ideas difficult to follow. For example, “the cafe design’s today” has an unclear possessive construction, and “available for indoor and outdoor Seating meanwhile the last design without outdoor” is not a complete, well-formed sentence. There are also problems with articles, agreement and sentence boundaries, as in “today’s design is more intersting and become more comfortable”. Aim first for accurate simple comparisons, such as “The café now has outdoor seating, whereas the previous design did not,” then add more complex structures once these are controlled.
