Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response covers the main features of the cafe redesign, identifying key changes such as the addition of the salad bar, barbecue area, and outdoor seating. However, the report is somewhat mechanical and lacks a clear, analytical overview. While the main features are identified, the description of the layout is occasionally repetitive and lacks the precision required for a higher band. The summary of the 'before' and 'after' states is present, but the comparison could be more integrated. To improve, focus on grouping information more logically (e.g., structural changes vs. functional changes) rather than listing them location by location.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the information. However, the use of cohesive devices is limited and sometimes mechanical. For example, the transition between sentences often relies on simple subject-verb structures rather than linking words or referencing. There is a lack of variety in how information is connected, making the flow feel slightly disjointed. Improving the use of cohesive devices such as 'whereas', 'in contrast', or 'subsequently' would help create a more professional and fluid report.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. There are several instances of awkward phrasing, such as 'before reformation' (should be 'before the renovation') and 'outdoor seating arrangement' (which is acceptable but could be more descriptive). The spelling of 'toady's' (presumably 'today's') and 'reformed' (in the context of a room) indicates a need for more careful word choice. To reach a higher band, try to use more precise terminology related to layout and design, such as 'transformed', 'relocated', or 'expanded'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Issues include missing articles ('in north-west', 'in center'), subject-verb agreement errors ('kitchen and toilets areas remains'), and awkward sentence construction ('also there opposite outside are converted'). While the meaning is generally understandable, these recurring errors prevent the writing from reaching a higher level of accuracy. Focusing on basic sentence construction, particularly the correct use of articles and pluralisation, will significantly improve the quality of your writing.
