Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response covers the main features of the cafe redesign, including the kitchen, serving area, dining rooms, and new additions like the salad bar and outdoor seating. However, the overview is somewhat weak and lacks a clear summary of the most significant changes. While the task is addressed, the description of locations is occasionally imprecise (e.g., 'West South side'), which makes it harder for the reader to visualize the changes. To improve, ensure the overview highlights the most striking transformations, such as the shift from a staff-focused dining area to a more customer-oriented layout.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs detailing specific areas. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive. Phrases like 'On the North west side' and 'On East side' are used frequently, and there is a lack of variety in linking words. Some sentences are disjointed, such as 'While , barbecue is constructed', where the punctuation and transition are awkward. Improving the flow between sentences using a wider range of cohesive markers would enhance the overall coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to describe the changes clearly. Words like 'refurbishment', 'converted', and 'modified' are used appropriately. However, the range is limited, and there are some inaccuracies in collocation and word choice, such as 'bin converted to recycling bins' (should be 'bins were replaced by') and 'outdoor seatings' (seating is an uncountable noun). To reach a higher band, the writer should aim for more precise terminology and avoid repeating the same sentence structures when describing changes.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Issues include missing articles ('on right side of it'), subject-verb agreement errors ('Major change are bin converted'), and awkward phrasing ('how it look at present'). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are persistent throughout the text. To improve, the writer should focus on basic grammatical accuracy, particularly with articles, pluralization, and verb tenses, before attempting more complex sentence constructions.
