Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the ability to fully develop the response. While you have identified some main features, such as the outdoor seating and the new salad bar, the description is quite brief and lacks a comprehensive overview of all changes. The summary is under-developed, and the failure to reach the word count means that the information is not fully reported. To improve, you should aim to describe the layout more systematically, ensuring all key changes are mentioned and compared in greater detail to meet the length requirement.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into short paragraphs, which helps with readability. However, the progression of ideas is somewhat disjointed. You use some basic cohesive devices like 'Overall' and 'In the west', but the transitions between sentences are often abrupt. The referencing is sometimes unclear, such as in the sentence 'the other take away food', which lacks a clear grammatical link to the previous clause. To improve, focus on using a wider range of linking words and ensure that each sentence flows logically from the one before it, rather than listing features in isolation.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but remains quite basic and repetitive. You rely on simple verbs like 'built', 'added', and 'replaced'. There are also some awkward collocations and phrasing, such as 'put it new in the cafe' and 'at the middle north'. To reach a higher band, you should incorporate more precise vocabulary related to describing changes, such as 'transformed', 'converted', 'relocated', or 'expanded'. Expanding your range of descriptive adjectives and nouns will help you convey the information more professionally and accurately.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. For example, 'A notable thing that before they have a bin' is grammatically incorrect, and 'replaced with a hot meals' contains an article error. There are also issues with word order and sentence construction, such as 'the other take away food'. To improve, focus on basic sentence structure, subject-verb agreement, and the correct use of articles. Proofreading for these common errors will help you achieve a higher level of accuracy.
