Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response covers the main features of the cafe redesign, such as the addition of the salad bar, the outdoor seating area, and the changes to the kitchen and dining areas. However, the report lacks a clear overview of the most significant changes, which is a requirement for a high band score in Task 1. Some descriptions are slightly inaccurate or confusing, such as the mention of 'hot metals' instead of 'hot meals' and the reference to 'children' in a college cafe setting. While the main features are identified, the lack of a cohesive summary and the inclusion of some inaccurate details limit the effectiveness of the response.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The response is organised into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or awkward, such as 'Toe Embark with' (likely intended as 'To embark with') and 'Thirdly'. The progression of ideas is sometimes disjointed, making it difficult for the reader to follow the spatial changes clearly. Referencing is occasionally unclear, and the transition between the description of the kitchen and the new outdoor area lacks smooth logical flow. Improved use of linking words and better paragraph structure would enhance the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision required for a higher band. There are several instances of word-choice errors or awkward phrasing, such as 'remained stable' (instead of 'remained unchanged'), 'minimally before' (instead of 'smaller'), and 'hot metals' (a significant error for 'hot meals'). The range of vocabulary is somewhat limited, relying on basic descriptors. To improve, you should focus on using more precise terminology related to maps and spatial changes, such as 'relocated', 'expanded', 'converted', or 'partitioned'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'the various changes are made' (passive voice error), 'it has became' (tense error), 'there serving area which used to serves' (subject-verb agreement and article errors), and 'all the amendment are made' (pluralisation error). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after periods and incorrect comma usage. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band.
