Student answer (Band 6.5)
The blueprints depict the view of collage cafe before and after redesign. At a glance, Kitchen, Toilets and tables and chairs remained same. some counters were also added.
At first, the serving area of food is transformed into a section for hot meals. In the centre part, before redesign, there is staff dining rooms, which are now converted into a section for take away food and coffee bar. In the right side, the area of bin is now extended. While in the left side, the section was added named salad bar. Moreover, outside the cafe, many seats were added to increase the capacity for the customers and also the section added for the barbecue.
Overall, in comparison of old design, new design contains new facilities and better sitting. Additionally, the window for take away food can also be helpful to reduce the long cue on the main and other counters.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response covers the main features of the redesign, such as the new salad bar, the barbecue area, and the conversion of the staff dining room. However, the overview is somewhat simplistic and lacks a clear, analytical summary of the most significant changes. While the task is addressed, the description of the layout is occasionally imprecise (e.g., 'the serving area of food is transformed'). To reach a higher band, you should focus on grouping information more logically and providing a more comprehensive overview that highlights the overall transformation of the space rather than just listing individual changes.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The response is organized into three paragraphs, which is appropriate for a report. There is a logical progression from the general overview to specific details. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive (e.g., 'At first', 'In the centre part', 'In the right side', 'In the left side'). Additionally, some transitions between sentences feel abrupt. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that referencing (e.g., 'the section') is clearer would help the flow of the text significantly.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. You rely on basic terms like 'added', 'changed', and 'section'. There are also some awkward collocations and minor errors, such as 'long cue' (should be 'queue') and 'collage cafe' (likely a spelling error for 'college'). To improve, try to incorporate more specific vocabulary related to spatial changes, such as 'relocated', 'expanded', 'partitioned', or 'reconfigured'. Using a wider range of descriptive language would demonstrate a more sophisticated command of the topic.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'remained same' (missing 'the'), 'in comparison of old design' (should be 'in comparison with the old design'), and 'the section added for the barbecue' (missing a verb). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are issues with article usage and prepositional phrases. Increasing the number of error-free sentences and refining the use of articles would improve the overall accuracy of your writing.
