Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response covers the main features of the cafe redesign, including the relocation of the kitchen, serving areas, and the addition of new facilities like the balcony and salad bar. However, the description is somewhat fragmented and lacks a clear, professional summary of the overall transformation. While all parts of the task are addressed, the reporting of information is occasionally imprecise, such as the vague reference to 'few things' in the balcony area. To reach a higher band, ensure that the overview clearly highlights the most significant changes, such as the shift from a basic layout to a more diverse, multi-functional space, rather than just listing individual changes.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response is organised into an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs, which provides a basic structure. However, the flow between ideas is often mechanical and sometimes confusing. For instance, the transition 'Further, if we look at the present cafe' is a bit clunky. The use of cohesive devices is limited and occasionally repetitive (e.g., 'furthermore', 'firstly'). Paragraphing is present but the internal logic within paragraphs could be improved by grouping related features more effectively. The referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the spatial changes described.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision required for a higher band. There are several spelling errors ('Ater', 'ealier', 'directon', 'chaged', 'ares', 'repaced', 'alsi') and some awkward phrasing ('health freaks', 'upper north'). While the student attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'serving area', 'coffee bar', and 'outdoor seating', the overall range is limited. To improve, focus on using more precise terminology for describing spatial changes, such as 'relocated', 'transformed', 'converted', or 'extended', and ensure careful proofreading to eliminate basic spelling mistakes.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede readability. Issues include subject-verb agreement ('maps depicts', 'change take place'), missing articles ('in centre', 'in South West'), and incorrect preposition usage. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma placement and run-on sentences. While the meaning is generally clear, the high frequency of errors in basic sentence construction prevents the response from reaching a higher band. Focusing on sentence structure and basic grammar rules would significantly enhance the quality of the writing.
