Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response successfully identifies the main features of the cafe redesign. You have clearly contrasted the 'before' and 'after' states, such as the conversion of the serving area and the addition of outdoor seating. However, the report could be improved by providing a more cohesive overview of the spatial changes. While you mention the northern and southern parts, some details, such as the specific location of the new salad bar or the barbecue area, could be more precisely integrated into the overall narrative to ensure a fully developed summary. Overall, the task is addressed well, and the key changes are highlighted effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, moving from the northern/central areas to the southern parts. You use some cohesive devices like 'Regarding', 'In addition', and 'Turning to', which help guide the reader. However, the flow is occasionally hindered by slightly mechanical transitions and some awkward phrasing, such as 'in the todays plan'. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different sections of the cafe. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that the progression between sentences feels more natural and less like a list of observations.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'redevelopment', 'transformed', and 'remained untouched'. There are some minor errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'excisting' (existing) and 'In addtion' (addition). Additionally, some phrasing is slightly unnatural, such as 'a bin was transformed into recycling bins' or 'the plan become significantly more developed'. While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise control over collocations and spelling to reach a higher band. Expanding your vocabulary to include more descriptive verbs and nouns related to spatial changes would be beneficial.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('the plan become', 'outdoor seating were added') and article usage ('a kitchen was located', 'the serving area'). While these errors are noticeable, they do not prevent the reader from understanding the information. To improve, focus on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and ensuring consistent tense usage when describing the changes. Increasing the variety of complex structures, such as using more relative clauses or passive voice constructions accurately, would also help improve your score.
