Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5

The response successfully identifies the main features of the cafe redesign. You have provided a clear overview and highlighted key changes, such as the addition of the salad bar, outdoor seating, and the barbecue area. The comparison between the 'before' and 'after' states is generally effective. However, to reach a higher band, ensure that all descriptions are precise; for example, stating that the kitchen 'remained unchanged' is accurate, but the description of the serving area being converted into 'hot meals' is slightly vague. Overall, you have covered the requirements of the task well by selecting and reporting the most significant changes.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5

The essay is logically organized, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a concluding summary. You use transition signals such as 'Regarding', 'In addition', and 'Turning to' to guide the reader through the different sections of the cafe. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the northern/central areas from the southern parts. While the flow is generally good, some cohesive devices feel slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing, such as 'in the todays plan', which could be smoother. Overall, the information is presented in a coherent manner that is easy to follow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'redevelopment', 'converted', and 'transformed'. There are some minor errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'excisting' (existing) and 'in the todays plan' (in the current plan). While you successfully use topic-specific vocabulary related to the cafe layout, the range is somewhat limited. To improve, try to incorporate more precise collocations and avoid repetitive phrasing. The errors present do not impede communication, but they do highlight a need for more careful proofreading and a wider variety of descriptive language.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'the plan become', 'outdoor seating were added', 'all the southern parts... was empty'). Additionally, there are some missing articles and minor punctuation issues. While these errors are noticeable, they do not prevent the reader from understanding the information. To achieve a higher score, focus on ensuring that subjects and verbs agree and that articles are used correctly. Increasing the variety of complex sentence structures while maintaining accuracy will also help elevate your score.
