Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The response covers all key features of the cafe redesign, including the kitchen, serving areas, and new additions like the salad bar and outdoor seating. You have successfully identified the main changes and made relevant comparisons between the 'before' and 'after' states. The overview is clear and provides a good summary of the transformation. To reach a higher band, ensure that all spatial descriptions are precise; for instance, mentioning the 'bottom of the cafe' is slightly informal. Overall, the response effectively addresses the requirements of the task by highlighting the most significant alterations in a logical manner.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a concluding summary. You use cohesive devices such as 'Regarding', 'In addition', and 'Turning to' to guide the reader through the different sections of the cafe. However, the paragraphing could be improved; the second body paragraph is quite long and could be split to better separate the northern and southern areas. Additionally, some referencing is slightly mechanical. Improving the flow between sentences by using more varied transition words would enhance the overall coherence of the report.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'redevelopment', 'transformed', and 'remained untouched'. There are some minor errors in word choice, such as 'todays plan' instead of 'the current plan' and 'excisting' (spelling error). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the information clearly, it lacks the sophistication and precision required for higher bands. To improve, try to incorporate more specific collocations related to describing changes, such as 'underwent a transformation' or 'was replaced by'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('the plan become', 'outdoor seating were added') and missing articles ('a kitchen was located at the north-west corner'). Punctuation is generally acceptable, but there are some inconsistencies in capitalization and spacing. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and article usage will significantly improve your accuracy.
