The plans below show a college cafe before it was redesigned and how it looks now.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 7.0)

Below are structures that illustrates the difference between the old and new look of a college cafe.

Overall, there are significant changes seen in the recent look, however, some areas in the structure of the cafe remained the same.

The former plan constitute of only kitchen, serving area, staff dining room, bin, tables and chairs and finally, toilets. The kitchen was located at the north west of the cafe with the serving area, where food and drinks were being served positioned near the kitchen. At the center of the cafe are tables and chairs for customers to make use of. Then the toilets are found at the south east end of the cafe with the bin for disposables close by.

In recent time, there is a significant development in the design of the cafe. Although, the kitchen, toilets and the table and chairs area experienced no change , other parts were redesigned and developed. The serving area has been replaced with hot meals. Take away food and coffee bar took the spot of the staff dining rooms. The bin area was expanded and is now used for recycling bins. One major development is the outdoor seating where tables and chairs are arranged for customers to dine in and receive natural air. In addition to the outdoor development, a barbecue spot is located at the southwest of the cafe.
