Turning to the past layout, it can be noticed that rectangle shaped kitchen was located in Northeast part of the map. Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response covers the main features of the cafe redesign well. You have successfully identified the key changes, such as the addition of the salad bar and outdoor seating, and the transformation of the staff dining rooms. However, the report could be improved by providing a more cohesive overview that synthesizes the changes rather than just listing them. While you have included an overview paragraph, it is slightly fragmented. To reach a higher band, ensure that comparisons between the 'before' and 'after' states are more explicit throughout the body paragraphs, rather than describing the two maps in isolation.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression from the past to the present layout. You use some cohesive devices like 'Turning to the past layout' and 'Looking at the present layout' to signal shifts in focus. However, the use of linking words is sometimes repetitive or slightly mechanical. Additionally, there are minor issues with referencing and sentence flow, such as the abrupt ending of the final sentence. Improving the variety of transition signals and ensuring that sentences connect more fluidly would enhance the overall coherence of the response.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'transformed', 'redesigned', and 'layout' appropriately. There are some instances of awkward phrasing or minor errors in word choice, such as 'A kitchen is remained unchanged' (should be 'The kitchen remained unchanged') and 'visitor friendly'. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the meaning clearly, it lacks the precision and sophistication required for higher bands. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations related to map descriptions and avoiding repetitive sentence structures.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the' vs 'a'), verb tenses, and subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'A kitchen is remained', 'the area become'). These errors are noticeable but do not significantly impede communication. To achieve a higher score, you should focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy, specifically ensuring consistent tense usage when describing past and present states, and refining your control over article usage.
