Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to describe the changes between the two cafe plans, but it lacks a clear overview or summary of the main trends. The description is largely a list of features rather than a synthesis of the information. While you identify several changes, such as the addition of outdoor seating and the salad bar, the lack of a structured approach makes it difficult to follow the transformation. To improve, ensure you provide a clear introductory overview of the most significant changes and group information logically (e.g., structural changes vs. functional changes) rather than listing items randomly. The response is also quite informal in tone, which is not suitable for an Academic Task 1 report.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response lacks paragraphing, which is essential for a clear report. The flow of ideas is disjointed, relying heavily on repetitive sentence structures like 'we can see' and 'they also add'. Cohesive devices are either missing or used incorrectly, making the progression of information feel mechanical and repetitive. To reach a higher band, you must use paragraph breaks to separate different aspects of the plans and employ a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'In contrast', 'Furthermore', 'Additionally') to connect your ideas more fluidly. The current lack of logical sequencing makes the report difficult to navigate.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive. You use basic terms like 'add' and 'see' repeatedly throughout the text. There are also several spelling errors ('chard' instead of 'chart', 'collage' instead of 'college', 'siting' instead of 'seating', 'lable' instead of 'labeled', 'coffe' instead of 'coffee') and awkward phrasing such as 'large installment of bins'. To improve, focus on using more precise vocabulary related to describing changes, such as 'replaced', 'converted', 'expanded', or 'relocated'. Expanding your range of descriptive adjectives and nouns will help you convey the information more accurately and professionally.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. There are issues with subject-verb agreement ('The chard below show'), article usage ('the 1st chart', 'the old design of cafe'), and sentence structure. Many sentences are run-on or lack proper punctuation, making them difficult to parse. You rely almost exclusively on simple sentence structures. To improve, practice using a mix of complex sentences, such as using relative clauses or passive voice, which is particularly useful for describing changes in plans (e.g., 'The staff dining area was replaced by a coffee bar'). Proofreading for basic errors like pluralization and verb tense consistency is also essential.
