Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which negatively impacts the task achievement score. While you have identified some key features of the cafe redesign, the report is fragmented and lacks a clear, logical summary of the changes. Several descriptions are confusing, such as the mention of a 'barbecue' which is not evident in the provided plans. Furthermore, the comparison between the 'before' and 'after' states is often unclear due to grammatical errors and imprecise reporting. To improve, ensure you clearly group features (e.g., seating, service areas, facilities) and provide a more accurate, detailed overview of the spatial changes shown in the diagrams.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is divided into paragraphs, but the logical flow is frequently interrupted by confusing phrasing and mechanical errors. While you attempt to use cohesive devices like 'At the outset' and 'Following this', they are often used incorrectly or do not logically connect the ideas that follow. The referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult for the reader to track which area of the cafe is being discussed. To improve, focus on using transition words that accurately reflect the relationship between ideas and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus on a specific aspect of the cafe's layout.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary range is limited and repetitive. You rely on basic terms and struggle with accurate collocations, such as 'swapped for staff dining rooms' or 'redeveloped over the period'. There are also instances of word-choice errors that impede clarity, such as 'barbecue' and 'Bin'. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use more precise terminology related to spatial descriptions, such as 'relocated', 'expanded', 'partitioned', or 'converted'. Expanding your range of descriptive adjectives and verbs will help you convey the changes in the cafe more effectively and professionally.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that often obscure the intended meaning. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'one of the most significant change'), missing articles, and incorrect sentence structures (e.g., 'It constructed in large area'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with unnecessary capitalization and comma usage. The range of structures is limited, consisting mostly of simple sentences with errors in tense and word order. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring that subjects and verbs agree, and practicing the correct use of articles and prepositions in descriptive writing.
