Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response covers the main features of the redesign, such as the addition of the salad bar, coffee bar, and outdoor seating. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial. While you mention that the kitchen and dining hall remain in the same place, the description lacks a clear, structured comparison between the two layouts. The overview is present but could be more effectively integrated. Some details, such as the 'bin category' modification, are vague and do not clearly explain the visual information provided in the plans. To improve, focus on grouping related changes more logically to provide a more comprehensive summary of the transformation.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is divided into paragraphs, but the internal structure is weak. The progression of ideas is somewhat disjointed, making it difficult for the reader to follow the spatial changes. Cohesive devices are used, but they are often mechanical or misused, such as the abrupt transition in the second paragraph. Referencing is sometimes unclear, particularly when describing the location of new features. The use of paragraphing is present, but the logical flow between sentences within paragraphs needs significant improvement to ensure a smoother reading experience.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, often relying on basic terms like 'place' or 'added'. There are several spelling errors, such as 'collage' instead of 'college', 'dinnig' instead of 'dining', 'cantral' instead of 'central', and 'interduced' instead of 'introduced'. These errors, combined with awkward phrasing like 'bin cataegory', occasionally impede clarity. To reach a higher band, you should aim for more precise terminology related to spatial descriptions and ensure accurate spelling of common words. The range of vocabulary is sufficient for the task but lacks the flexibility required for a higher score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Issues include missing articles (e.g., 'old collage cafe', 'kitchen area of cafe'), incorrect verb forms (e.g., 'remains at its prior places'), and punctuation errors. Subject-verb agreement is also inconsistent. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar and sentence construction prevents the text from reaching a higher band. Focusing on sentence structure and proofreading for basic errors would significantly improve the quality of your writing.
