Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, reaching only 92 words. Consequently, the task is only partially addressed. The summary of the main features is incomplete; the response describes the 'before' state but fails to provide a meaningful comparison with the 'now' state, which is a core requirement of the prompt. The description lacks a clear overview of the significant changes, such as the expansion of the seating area or the relocation of facilities. To improve, you must ensure you describe both plans in detail and highlight the key differences between them.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0
The response lacks a clear logical progression. While there is an attempt to use transition words like 'Followed to this' and 'Afterwards', these are used incorrectly and do not effectively link ideas. The paragraphing is insufficient, and the text feels like a collection of disjointed sentences rather than a cohesive report. The referencing is also unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the spatial layout of the cafe. To improve, focus on using cohesive devices more naturally and organizing your report into clear paragraphs: an introduction, an overview, and detailed body paragraphs.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.0
The vocabulary is very limited and often inaccurate. Phrases like 'north to west zone' and 'modern days' are not appropriate for describing architectural plans. There is also a lack of variety in descriptive language; for instance, 'built' and 'added' are used in a repetitive and imprecise manner. The spelling and word choice errors, such as 'dinning' instead of 'dining' and 'Infront' as one word, hinder the clarity of the description. You should aim to use more precise vocabulary related to spatial descriptions, such as 'situated', 'relocated', 'extended', or 'adjacent'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that often impede communication. There are significant issues with sentence structure, such as 'The layout illustrates about the college bistro', which is grammatically incorrect. Preposition usage is consistently flawed (e.g., 'in north to west zone'). Furthermore, the tense usage is inconsistent, switching between present and past in a way that does not accurately reflect the comparison of the two plans. The lack of complex sentence structures and the high frequency of basic errors significantly limit the score in this criterion.
