Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the score. While you identify some key features such as the kitchen, toilets, and the addition of outdoor seating, the description is often vague and lacks a clear, structured comparison. For instance, you mention the kitchen and toilets remain similar, but you do not clearly contrast the specific spatial changes. The summary is underdeveloped, and the failure to reach the word count means the task is only partially addressed. To improve, ensure you provide a more comprehensive overview of the spatial transformations and ensure you meet the minimum length requirement to allow for full development of your ideas.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response is organised into paragraphs, but the logical flow is frequently interrupted by grammatical errors and awkward phrasing. While you use some cohesive devices like 'Firstly' and 'Whereas', their usage is often mechanical or incorrectly placed, such as starting a sentence with 'whereas' to introduce a new point. The referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison between the 'before' and 'after' plans. To improve, focus on using transition words more naturally and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus that links back to the main topic.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and contains several spelling errors, such as 'collage' instead of 'college', 'todya' for 'today', 'avilebl' for 'available', and 'replece' for 'replace'. You rely on basic descriptors like 'small' and 'big', which do not demonstrate the range required for higher bands. There is also an issue with word choice, such as 'vis a vis' being used in a context that does not quite fit the flow of the sentence. To improve, focus on learning accurate spelling and expanding your range of descriptive adjectives and verbs related to spatial changes, such as 'expanded', 'relocated', or 'transformed'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement, such as 'the kitchen area and toilets area has been' (should be 'have been') and 'their not avilebl' (should be 'they are not available'). Sentence structures are generally simple and often fragmented. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after commas and periods. To improve, you should practice basic sentence construction, focusing on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles and pronouns. Proofreading for common errors like 'their/they are' will also help improve your accuracy significantly.
