Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to describe the changes in the cafe, but it fails to provide a clear, structured summary. While it mentions some features like the kitchen, outdoor seating, and the salad bar, the information is presented in a disorganized manner. The overview is not distinct from the body, and the description lacks the necessary precision required for an Academic Task 1 report. Key features are mentioned, but the comparison between the 'before' and 'after' states is confusing and lacks analytical depth. To improve, you should group information logically (e.g., structural changes vs. new facilities) and ensure the overview highlights the most significant trends rather than listing individual items.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay lacks a clear structure. The use of headings like 'Introduction' and 'Body paragraph' is inappropriate for an IELTS report and disrupts the flow. There is a lack of logical progression between sentences, and cohesive devices are either missing or misused (e.g., 'Moreover' is used to start a sentence that does not logically follow the previous one). Referencing is often unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison between the two plans. Paragraphing is not used effectively to separate distinct ideas, which hinders the overall coherence of the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive. Words like 'things', 'add', and 'look' are used frequently, which does not demonstrate the range required for a higher band score. There are also several spelling errors (e.g., 'collage' instead of 'college', 'species' instead of 'spacious', 'ni' instead of 'in') and awkward collocations. The language used is informal and lacks the precision needed to describe architectural or layout changes. To improve, you should focus on learning specific vocabulary related to describing changes, such as 'expanded', 'relocated', 'installed', or 'transformed'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that often impede communication. There are significant issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'there is many new things'), tense usage (e.g., 'before it's there is'), and sentence structure. Many sentences are run-on or fragmented, lacking proper punctuation. The range of structures is very limited, consisting mostly of simple, error-prone sentences. There is no evidence of complex sentence structures. To improve, focus on basic sentence construction, ensuring that subjects and verbs agree and that punctuation is used correctly to separate independent clauses.
