Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response covers the main features of the cafe redesign, such as the addition of the salad bar, outdoor seating, and the barbecue. However, the description is somewhat informal and lacks the analytical tone required for an Academic Task 1 report. The overview is quite basic, and some details are described in a repetitive manner rather than being compared effectively. To improve, focus on grouping features logically (e.g., structural changes vs. equipment additions) and use more precise comparative language to highlight the transformation between the two plans.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The response is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate, such as 'Old design overview' and 'Today plan details' used as paragraph starters. The flow between sentences is sometimes disjointed, and the referencing is occasionally unclear. To reach a higher band, use a wider range of linking words and phrases to connect ideas more naturally, such as 'In contrast', 'Furthermore', or 'Regarding the layout'.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, relying on simple terms like 'wonderful', 'amazing', and 'facilities'. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'made in start of design' and 'is add in the new structure'. The range is sufficient to convey the basic meaning, but it lacks the precision and variety expected for an academic report. Expanding your vocabulary to include more descriptive terms related to spatial layout and architectural changes would significantly improve your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors, particularly with verb tenses and sentence structure. Examples include 'pervious the design... was short', 'not have more opportunities', and 'is including salad bar'. There is a lack of complex sentence structures, and the errors in basic subject-verb agreement and article usage are noticeable throughout. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and ensuring consistent use of tenses when describing past and present states.
