Student answer (Band 4.0)
This is a design of college cafe before look and after redesign look, we have to summarize the design and make a report of how it looks and what is the difference of before and after design and make a report on which things are upgraded
Before the Cafe redesign the kitchen is not much looking good the things are not much divided in a section for example serving area of foods and drinks. the serving area is so dirty customers are complaining about the food staff is also not happy with dinning which is very congested most of the customers are complaining about the tables and chairs is so old and dirty toilets are near to customer sittings the redesigned is very compulsory for the cafe reputation
The cafe after redesigned looks amazing the quality of everything is so good they also add a bbq area for the customers and the sale was boost after redesign

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 3.0
The response fails to meet the requirements of an Academic Task 1 report. Instead of objectively describing the visual changes in the cafe layout, the student provides subjective, narrative commentary (e.g., 'customers are complaining', 'the cafe reputation'). The task requires a summary of features and comparisons, not an imaginative story about customer satisfaction or staff happiness. The response lacks a clear overview of the main changes, such as the expansion of the kitchen or the addition of new seating areas. Because the content is largely irrelevant to the prompt, it does not address the task requirements effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0
The response is poorly organized. While there is a basic attempt at paragraphing, the flow of ideas is disjointed. There is a lack of cohesive devices to link sentences or contrast the 'before' and 'after' states. The introduction is confusing, as it reads more like a set of instructions to oneself rather than an introduction to the report. The transition between the description of the old cafe and the new one is abrupt, and the lack of logical progression makes the text difficult to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.0
The vocabulary is very limited and repetitive. The student relies on basic, informal language such as 'not much looking good', 'amazing', and 'so good'. There is no attempt to use precise, academic terminology suitable for describing architectural plans or spatial changes (e.g., 'relocated', 'expanded', 'partitioned', 'integrated'). The phrasing is often unnatural, and the lack of variety in word choice significantly limits the ability to convey information clearly.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that impede clarity. There are significant issues with verb tense consistency (e.g., 'the kitchen is not much looking good' instead of 'was not'), punctuation (missing periods and capitalization), and sentence structure. Many sentences are run-on or fragmented, such as 'the serving area is so dirty customers are complaining about the food staff is also not happy'. The range of structures is extremely limited, consisting mostly of simple, error-prone sentences.
