The plans below show a college cafe before it was redesigned and how it looks now.
Student answer (Band 7.5)
The two blueprints illustrate the structural modifications made to a college café during a comprehensive modern redesign.
Overall, the venue underwent a significant transformation aimed at diversifying food service stations and maximizing seating capacity. This was primarily achieved by removing exclusive spaces and expanding the dining areas both internally and externally.
Regarding the layout changes, the single, generic serving area was replaced by a specialized hot meals counter. More significantly, the two central staff dining rooms were completely eliminated to make room for separate take-away food and coffee bar counters. Additionally, a new indoor salad bar was introduced along the left wall, while the single waste bin was upgraded to segmented recycling bins next to the unchanged toilets.
Externally, substantial developments occurred along the southern perimeter. An entirely new outdoor seating area was established, consisting of six communal tables. This is complemented by a newly built barbecue station located in the bottom-left corner, positioned directly adjacent to the interior salad bar.
