Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response identifies the main features of the cafe redesign, such as the addition of the salad bar and outdoor seating. However, the report lacks a clear overview or summary of the most significant changes. The description is somewhat repetitive and focuses on listing features rather than synthesizing the information. Some details, such as the 'bin' being mentioned multiple times, are not central to the task and distract from the main structural changes. To improve, you should group related features together (e.g., seating areas, service areas) and provide a more analytical summary of the transformation rather than a chronological or item-by-item list.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response is organized into two paragraphs, but the internal structure is weak. The use of cohesive devices is limited and often repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'in previous plan' and 'nowadays'. The flow between sentences is disjointed, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison between the two plans. Paragraphing is present but does not effectively separate the introduction, overview, and specific details. To improve, use a wider range of linking words (e.g., 'whereas', 'in contrast', 'subsequently') and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, logical focus.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive, relying heavily on basic terms like 'saw', 'make', and 'place'. There are several instances of awkward phrasing, such as 'put changing in bin' and 'create enhancement in bin', which do not accurately describe the visual information. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to convey the changes with precision. To reach a higher band, you should incorporate more descriptive verbs and nouns related to architectural changes, such as 'transformed', 'relocated', 'expanded', or 'installed', and avoid repeating the same basic sentence structures.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors, including issues with verb tense consistency (e.g., 'we saw', 'nowadays put changing'), article usage, and sentence structure. Many sentences are run-on or lack proper punctuation, which hinders readability. There is a lack of complex sentence structures, and the existing sentences are often simple or incorrectly constructed. To improve, focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement and the correct use of prepositions. Additionally, try to incorporate a mix of simple and complex sentences to demonstrate a better command of English grammar.
