Student answer (Band 6.0)

The map illustrates the changes took place after redesigning of the college cafeteria.

By taking an overview, the area of the cafe has remained same just new facilities are been provided with varieties of food counters and an extended outdoor sitting.

The situation of basic things has remained at same spot like kitchen on the left upper corner and toilet on the right lower corner and tables and chairs in the middle area. Trash bin got converted to recycling bin to take care of environment. Serving area for all food and drinks became hot meals desk whereas staff dinning room got utilized as take away food and a best coffee bar which serves gourmet coffee of arabica beans.

Noteworthy thing is that there are two new sections introduced after redesigning which are salad bar that is situated inside the hall and barbecue compartment for a group gathering and some fun events. Outdoor seating is provided for the ones who loves to enjoy to sit in natural light with cold breeze.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

You have successfully identified the main features of the cafe redesign, such as the new salad bar, barbecue area, and the conversion of the serving area. You provided a clear overview of the changes. However, to reach a higher band, you should ensure more precise comparisons. For instance, instead of saying the area 'remained same', you could specify that the overall footprint remained unchanged while the internal layout was significantly reconfigured. Additionally, some descriptions are slightly informal (e.g., 'basic things'), and you could improve the report by using more precise spatial language to describe the location of new features relative to existing ones.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The response is logically organized into paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs detailing the changes. There is a clear progression of ideas. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and limited. Phrases like 'Noteworthy thing is that' are a bit clunky. To improve, try using a wider variety of linking words and transition phrases to connect your sentences more fluidly, such as 'In contrast to the previous layout,' or 'Furthermore, the addition of...'. The paragraphing is appropriate, but the internal cohesion within paragraphs could be strengthened to improve the flow of information.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You have an adequate range of vocabulary to describe the changes, such as 'redesigning', 'facilities', 'gourmet', and 'compartment'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'staff dinning room' (should be 'dining') and 'the ones who loves to enjoy' (should be 'those who love'). Some phrasing is also slightly unnatural, such as 'the area of the cafe has remained same'. To improve, focus on using more precise academic vocabulary and ensuring correct spelling and word forms throughout your writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader, such as 'changes took place' (missing 'that'), 'are been provided' (should be 'have been provided'), and 'remained at same spot' (missing articles). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are noticeable. To improve, pay closer attention to subject-verb agreement, the correct use of articles, and passive voice constructions, which are essential for describing processes and changes in Task 1 reports.
