The plans below show a college cafe before it was redesigned and how it looks now.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
The maps illustrates the information regarding the changes that took place at a college cafe.
Overall, it is evident that a college cafe underwent changes either some infrastructures are removed, relocated or redeveloped over the given timeframe. Barbecue, salad bar and chairs are added to the old building of the cafe while serving area, dining rooms and bin are replaced by modern structures. So, the old cafe is convereted to the modernized and developed cafe.
Furthermore, it is clear that serving area is replaced by hot meals, staff dining rooms are convereted to take away food and coffee bar, bin is convereted to recycling bin. Likewise , salad bar is constructed on the west side, barbecue and outdoor seating is developed on the south outside the cafe. Meanwhile, kitchen, the tables and chairs area and toilets are remained same over the period.
In short, old cafe is transformed in to the new cafe with improved infrastructure and modern facilities by efficient utilization of land and proper planning.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response provides a clear overview of the changes and identifies the main features, such as the addition of the salad bar and the conversion of the serving area. However, the report lacks precision in describing the spatial layout. For instance, stating that the 'kitchen, the tables and chairs area and toilets are remained same' is inaccurate, as the layout of these areas clearly changed in the 'now' plan. Furthermore, the description of the 'barbecue' and 'outdoor seating' is slightly vague regarding their exact placement. To reach a higher band, ensure that all comparisons are factually accurate based on the visual data provided and avoid over-generalising the changes.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response is logically organised into an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs. The use of cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore', 'Likewise', and 'Meanwhile' helps to guide the reader through the information. However, the paragraphing is slightly repetitive, and some transitions feel mechanical. The referencing is generally clear, but the flow between the description of the internal changes and the external additions could be smoother. The overall progression of ideas is coherent, but the structure could benefit from more varied linking phrases to improve the flow between sentences.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, with some attempts at topic-specific language like 'modernized', 'redeveloped', and 'efficient utilization'. However, there are several spelling errors, such as 'convereted' (converted) and 'maps illustrates' (map illustrates). The range of vocabulary is somewhat limited, relying on repetitive structures. To improve, you should aim to use more precise synonyms for 'changed' or 'added' and ensure that you proofread for basic spelling mistakes, which currently detract from the professional tone of the report.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'The maps illustrates' (subject-verb agreement), 'either some infrastructures are removed' (incorrect use of 'either'), and 'toilets are remained same' (incorrect passive voice). While these errors do not significantly impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. To improve, focus on mastering subject-verb agreement and the correct use of passive voice, which is essential for describing processes and changes in diagrams.
