Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the score. While you have attempted to describe the changes, the summary is underdeveloped and lacks a clear overview of the main trends or significant transformations. You have identified some features, such as the kitchen and seating, but the description is fragmented and lacks the necessary detail to fully address the task. To improve, ensure you provide a clear introduction, a distinct overview of the most notable changes, and detailed body paragraphs that compare the 'before' and 'after' states more comprehensively.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0

The response lacks logical progression and clear paragraphing. The sentences are disjointed, and the use of cohesive devices is very limited and repetitive (e.g., 'Then it has...', 'The cafe looks like is...'). There is no clear structure to guide the reader through the comparison of the two plans. To improve, use linking words to connect ideas (e.g., 'In contrast', 'Furthermore', 'Additionally') and organize your writing into a logical structure: an introduction, an overview, and two distinct body paragraphs focusing on specific areas of the cafe.

Lexical Resource — Band 4.0

The vocabulary is very basic and repetitive, relying heavily on simple structures like 'with' and 'it has'. There is a lack of precise terminology required for describing diagrams or spatial changes (e.g., 'manner wise' is non-standard). Many phrases are awkward, such as 'The cafe looks like is with the kitchen'. To improve, focus on learning topic-specific vocabulary for describing layouts, such as 'relocated', 'transformed', 'expanded', 'adjacent to', and 'situated'. Expanding your range of descriptive adjectives and nouns will help you convey information more accurately and professionally.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that often impede communication. There are significant issues with sentence structure, subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'it have is'), and article usage. The writing relies almost exclusively on simple sentence structures, and there is a lack of complex grammatical forms. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, including correct verb tenses for describing changes (e.g., 'was redesigned', 'has been replaced'). Practice using relative clauses and passive voice, which are essential for describing processes and changes in Academic Task 1.
