Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to summarize the changes, but it fails to provide a clear or accurate overview. The description of the layout is confusing and repetitive, particularly in the second and fourth paragraphs where the same information is restated. While some features like the 'salad bar' and 'outdoor seating' are mentioned, the lack of clarity regarding the spatial arrangement makes it difficult for the reader to visualize the changes. The response lacks a logical selection of key features, and the information provided is often contradictory or poorly expressed, which hinders the overall task completion.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay lacks a clear logical progression. Paragraphing is present, but the content within the paragraphs is disjointed and repetitive. Cohesive devices are used ineffectively; for example, 'At the first glance' is used incorrectly, and the transition between the description of the old cafe and the new one is abrupt and confusing. There is a significant amount of repetition, such as the phrase 'major change in cafe today in serving area was removed', which appears twice, indicating a lack of control over the flow of information.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and often inaccurate. There is frequent misuse of basic terms, such as 'seven type' instead of 'seven areas' or 'seven types of rooms'. The phrasing is often awkward, such as 'the proportion was table and chairs areas was largest place'. The student struggles to use precise terminology to describe spatial changes, relying on repetitive and simplistic language. The errors in word choice and collocation are frequent and occasionally make the intended meaning difficult to follow.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that impede communication. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'The plans illustrates'), missing articles (e.g., 'in seven type'), and incorrect sentence structure (e.g., 'the cafe before redesign in seven areas in cafe'). Complex sentence structures are attempted but are almost always faulty, leading to confusion. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with many run-on sentences and missing spaces after commas. The range of structures is limited, and the high frequency of errors makes the text difficult to read.
