Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response is significantly under the required word count of 150 words, reaching only 85 words. Consequently, the task is not fully addressed, and the description of the cafe's transformation is incomplete. The response fails to provide a comprehensive overview or a detailed comparison of the changes, leaving out significant portions of the visual information. Because the response is unfinished and fails to meet the minimum length requirement, it cannot achieve a higher band score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response lacks a logical structure due to its incomplete nature. While there is an attempt at an introduction and an overview, the body paragraphs are fragmented and cut off mid-sentence. The use of cohesive devices such as 'Starting with' and 'Furthermore' is present, but the overall progression is severely hindered by the lack of content. The paragraphing is also inconsistent, with a very short second paragraph that does not allow for a coherent flow of information.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is generally appropriate for the task, such as 'significant development', 'converted', and 'transformations'. However, there are errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'dinning' instead of 'dining' and 'Coffe' instead of 'coffee'. The range of vocabulary is limited by the brevity of the text, preventing the demonstration of a wider or more sophisticated range of lexical items required for higher bands.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains several grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues (e.g., 'a barbecue area and outdoor seating was constructed' should be 'were constructed') and missing articles (e.g., 'Starting with kitchen'). There are also punctuation errors, such as the missing space after the period in 'development.The'. The sentence structures are relatively simple, and the incomplete nature of the final sentence further detracts from the grammatical control shown.
