Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses the task by describing the main features of the cafe before and after the redesign. However, the overview is weak and lacks a clear summary of the most significant changes, such as the expansion of the serving area and the addition of outdoor seating. The description of the changes is somewhat repetitive and lacks precision in comparing the two layouts. While the main features are identified, the report would benefit from a more analytical approach that highlights the transformation of the space rather than just listing the location of items. The conclusion is also quite brief and does not effectively synthesize the information provided.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate (e.g., 'According to these both diagram', 'More ever'). The referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult to track the spatial changes between the two plans. While there is a logical progression from the old design to the new one, the flow between sentences is frequently interrupted by grammatical errors and awkward phrasing, which hinders the overall coherence of the report.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The range of vocabulary is limited and repetitive. The student relies on basic terms like 'place', 'design', and 'cafe' throughout the text. There are several instances of incorrect word choice and collocation, such as 'hand over of the customer' instead of 'served to customers' and 'staff dinning rooms' instead of 'staff dining area'. Spelling errors, such as 'collage' instead of 'college' and 'middel' instead of 'middle', are frequent. To achieve a higher band, the student needs to use more precise vocabulary related to describing layouts and changes, such as 'relocated', 'converted', or 'extended'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that often impede communication. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'it illustrate', 'there is bit changing'), article usage, and sentence structure. Many sentences are fragmented or poorly constructed, such as 'In the changing design it providing many facilities.' The use of complex structures is attempted but is generally inaccurate, leading to confusion. The student needs to focus on basic sentence construction, correct verb tenses, and consistent punctuation to improve clarity and accuracy.
