The plans below show a college cafe before it was redesigned and how it looks now.

The plans illustrate the looks of a college cafe before changes and after changes have made.
Overall, the cafe fully converted into a modern cafe, after several changes have taken place. Bin has been replace into a recycling bins and staff dinner rooms replaced with take away food counter and coffee bar.
Cafe before redesign, the cafe has numerous facilities, with tables and chairs in the middle of the cafe, below the staff dinner rooms, while bin and toilets putted into a corner and kitchen was structured into a upper side of the cafe, with serving area.
Cafe after redesign, staff dining rooms has been replaced by take away food counter and coffee bar, while recycling bins have taken place of bin just above the toilets. Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response provides a clear overview of the changes, identifying the main features such as the conversion of the staff dining area and the addition of new facilities like the salad bar and outdoor seating. However, the description is somewhat repetitive and lacks precision in spatial referencing. While the main features are covered, the reporting of the 'before' and 'after' states could be more effectively integrated to highlight the transformation. The summary is sufficient to meet the requirements, but the lack of a clear, cohesive overview at the beginning limits the score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression from the 'before' to the 'after' state. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally awkward, such as 'Cafe before redesign' and 'Cafe after redesign' used as sentence starters. The logical flow between sentences is sometimes interrupted by grammatical errors, making the progression feel slightly disjointed. Improved use of linking words like 'consequently', 'furthermore', or 'in contrast' would enhance the overall coherence of the report.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. There are several instances of awkward phrasing, such as 'bin has been replace into a recycling bins' and 'putted into a corner'. The student relies on basic descriptors and struggles with accurate collocations related to describing maps or plans. While the meaning is generally clear, the range of vocabulary is limited, and the errors in word choice and form prevent a higher score. More precise terminology for describing layout changes is needed.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Examples include 'after changes have made', 'bin has been replace', and 'hot meals not served in the replacement of serving area'. These errors, particularly regarding verb tense and passive voice construction, are noticeable. While the meaning is usually understandable, the frequency of these errors indicates a lack of control over more complex grammatical forms, which is a characteristic of the Band 5 to 6 range.
