The plans below show a college cafe before it was redesigned and how it looks now.
Student answer (Band 4.0)
I am telling that the design of the cafe is relevent . Both the design are according to the budget and especially the place of it .I like the second much as compare to the first one because the first cafe design in this some main thing is not included like the out door sitting arrangements because some people like me are enjoy in open while eating meal and the other hand even not have a recycling bin .But the thing in before cafe design has some persenal space for staff members but as this point of view we can see the second design has the take away food is available and also the coffee bar . I think any cafe or cafetaria in colleges or in univerties have huge area for setup and i preffer the today cafe design because it is more attrative because of outdoor sitting and coffee bar also.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 3.0
The response fails to meet the requirements of an Academic Task 1 report. Instead of objectively describing the changes between the two floor plans, the student provides a subjective, personal opinion ('I like the second much as compare to the first one'). The task requires a summary of main features and comparisons of the physical layout, not a personal review. Consequently, the response does not report the information provided in the diagrams, such as the relocation of the kitchen, the removal of the staff room, or the expansion of the seating area. The content is largely irrelevant to the prompt.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0
The response lacks a logical structure. It is written as a single paragraph of personal opinion rather than a structured report. There is no clear progression of ideas; the text jumps between personal preferences and fragmented observations about the cafe layout. Cohesive devices are either missing or misused, such as 'on the other hand even not have a recycling bin', which makes the flow of information disjointed and difficult to follow. Paragraphing is absent, and the overall organization does not support the task requirements.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.0
The vocabulary is very limited and often inappropriate for an academic report. The student relies on basic, conversational language ('main thing', 'some people like me', 'I think'). There are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'relevent' (relevant), 'persenal' (personal), and 'attrative' (attractive). The student struggles to use precise terminology to describe the features of the floor plans, such as 'seating area' or 'layout', instead using vague phrases like 'setup' or 'place of it'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that often impede communication. There are significant issues with sentence structure, such as 'I am telling that the design of the cafe is relevent' and 'the first cafe design in this some main thing is not included'. Subject-verb agreement, article usage, and preposition errors are pervasive throughout the text. The student attempts only simple sentence structures, and even these are often poorly constructed. Punctuation is also inconsistent, further hindering the clarity of the writing.
