Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to provide a clear overview of the main changes, which is a requirement for Task 1. The description is fragmented and lacks a professional, analytical tone. While you mention some features like the kitchen and the coffee bar, the information is not organised into a logical summary. You have not made effective comparisons between the 'before' and 'after' states, instead listing features in a disjointed manner. To improve, you must identify the most significant changes—such as the expansion of the seating area or the addition of new facilities—and present them in a structured, comparative way rather than simply listing items found in the diagrams.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0
The organisation of the response is weak. There is no clear paragraph structure, and the transition between the 'before' and 'after' descriptions is abrupt. The use of cohesive devices is very limited and often misused, such as the repetitive use of 'and' and 'also' to link ideas. The referencing is unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the spatial layout of the cafe. To improve, you should use clear paragraphing—one for the introduction/overview and one or two for the detailed comparisons—and employ a wider range of linking words like 'whereas', 'in contrast', and 'subsequently' to guide the reader through the information.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.0
The vocabulary is very basic and repetitive, relying heavily on simple words like 'things', 'room', and 'place'. There are several instances of incorrect word choice, such as 'belong' instead of 'before', 'through' instead of 'throw', and 'collective things' which is unclear. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to describe the features of a floor plan accurately. To improve, you should learn specific vocabulary related to describing changes, such as 'relocated', 'expanded', 'converted', or 'installed', and focus on using precise nouns to describe the different areas of the cafe rather than generic terms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that often impede communication. There are significant issues with verb tense consistency (e.g., 'it look now'), subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'He show'), and sentence structure. Many sentences are fragmented or poorly constructed, such as 'That have staff dining rooms'. There is a lack of complex sentence structures, and the punctuation is inconsistent. To improve, you need to focus on basic sentence construction, ensuring that every sentence has a clear subject and verb, and practice using correct tenses when describing past and present states. Proofreading for simple errors like 'peoples' (should be 'people') is also essential.
