the two plans illustrates the structural transformation of a college cafe comparing its original with its latest design. overall the facility has expended its serving capacity , introduces specialized dinning counters and added outdoor space while removing the staff dinning . in the original layout all food was served from a single counter that was besides the kitchen. while today the main kitchen counters are dedicated only to hot meals the service has been divided by adding the salad bar on the left wall and new take away food and coffee bar counters along the top wall. Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have successfully identified the main features of the cafe redesign, including the expansion of serving areas, the addition of outdoor seating, and the removal of staff dining. You provided a clear overview and made relevant comparisons between the 'before' and 'after' states. To reach a higher band, ensure you provide more precise descriptions of the spatial changes. For example, noting that the kitchen was relocated or that the seating area was reconfigured would add depth. The response covers all parts of the task well, though some descriptions could be more detailed to fully highlight the extent of the transformation.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The response is logically organized, moving from an overview to specific details about the kitchen, seating, and facilities. You use some cohesive devices such as 'while,' 'however,' and 'adding to it.' However, the paragraphing is non-existent; the entire response is a single block of text. To improve, you should divide your writing into clear paragraphs: an introduction/overview, and one or two body paragraphs detailing the specific changes. Additionally, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the flow could be improved with more sophisticated linking phrases.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'structural transformation,' 'specialized,' and 'modernized.' However, there are several errors in word choice and form, such as 'expended' (should be 'expanded'), 'dinning' (should be 'dining'), and 'facilities has been modernized' (subject-verb agreement). While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more careful proofreading and a wider variety of precise, academic vocabulary to describe spatial changes and layout features.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that detract from the quality of the writing. Issues include subject-verb agreement ('the two plans illustrates,' 'facilities has been modernized'), missing articles, and punctuation errors, such as the lack of capitalization at the start of sentences. While you attempt complex structures, the control over them is inconsistent. To improve, focus on basic grammatical accuracy, particularly subject-verb agreement and consistent punctuation, before attempting more complex sentence patterns.
