Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response covers the main features of the cafe redesign, such as the new seating areas and the conversion of the serving area. However, the structure is somewhat repetitive, as the student describes the 'before' and 'after' states in separate paragraphs rather than integrating the comparison. While the main changes are identified, the overview is weak and lacks a clear summary of the most significant transformations. The response would benefit from a more cohesive synthesis of the data rather than a list-like approach to the changes.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical flow is hindered by the repetitive structure. The use of cohesive devices like 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'Furthermore' is somewhat mechanical and repetitive. The transition between the general summary and the detailed description is abrupt. To improve, the student should focus on grouping information by theme (e.g., structural changes vs. functional changes) rather than simply listing features, which would create a more natural progression of ideas.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. Phrases like 'some changes happened' and 'new sections are included' are basic. There are also some awkward collocations, such as 'serving area... was replaced by hot meals' (a serving area is a space, not a menu item). The student relies on simple verbs and nouns. To reach a higher band, the student should use more precise terminology for describing spatial changes, such as 'transformed', 'relocated', 'expanded', or 'converted'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains several grammatical errors that affect readability. There are frequent issues with subject-verb agreement, such as 'There are some changes happened' (should be 'have happened') and 'hot meals is attached' (should be 'are attached'). The use of articles is also inconsistent, for example, 'bin is exchanged' (should be 'the bin'). While the student attempts some complex structures, they are often inaccurate. Focusing on basic sentence construction and ensuring subject-verb agreement would significantly improve the clarity of the writing.
