Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers the main features of the cafe redesign, including the transformation of the staff dining room and the addition of the outside seating area. You successfully identified key changes and provided a clear overview. However, the report lacks precision in describing the spatial relationships. For instance, stating 'Toilet was lies at south-west' is grammatically awkward and imprecise. Additionally, while you mention the salad bar, you could have provided more detail on its specific location relative to the original layout to better satisfy the 'comparisons where relevant' requirement. The summary is generally accurate, but a more analytical approach to the spatial changes would improve the score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, moving from an overview to specific details of the 'before' and 'after' states. The use of transition signals like 'Before construction' and 'After reconstruction' helps the reader follow the timeline. However, the cohesion is sometimes mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the sentence 'Bin was situated next to entrance of construction.' The final paragraph is somewhat repetitive, restating information already provided in the body. Improving the flow between sentences by using a wider variety of cohesive devices would enhance the overall structure.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to describe the layout changes clearly. You use relevant terms like 'redevelopment,' 'reconstruction,' and 'seating area.' However, there are instances of awkward word choices and minor errors, such as 'no much re-settings' and 'at it's original place' (a punctuation error). To reach a higher band, you should aim for more precise collocations and a wider range of vocabulary to describe spatial changes, such as 'relocated,' 'expanded,' or 'transformed,' rather than relying on simpler phrasing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors that affect the quality of the writing. Common issues include missing articles (e.g., 'at center of Cafe'), incorrect verb forms (e.g., 'Toilet was lies'), and subject-verb agreement errors (e.g., 'tables and chairs was situated'). These errors are noticeable but do not prevent the reader from understanding the information. To improve, focus on consistent use of articles and ensuring that subjects and verbs agree in number.
