Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

You have successfully identified the main features of the cafe renovation, such as the addition of the coffee bar, salad bar, and outdoor seating. However, the response lacks a clear overview, which is essential for a Band 7 or higher. An overview should highlight the most significant changes, such as the shift towards a more diverse service offering and the expansion of outdoor facilities. Additionally, some details are slightly inaccurate or confusing, such as stating the kitchen area remained the same when the layout clearly changed. To improve, ensure you provide a concise summary of the overall transformation in the introduction or conclusion.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The response is generally coherent, but it lacks paragraphing. A Task 1 response should be structured into at least two or three paragraphs: an introduction/overview, and one or two body paragraphs detailing the changes. The use of cohesive devices is somewhat limited and repetitive (e.g., 'After refurbishment', 'The toilet area also...'). To improve, use a wider range of linking words such as 'consequently', 'furthermore', or 'in contrast' to connect your ideas more fluidly. The progression of information is logical, but the lack of paragraph breaks makes the text feel like a single, dense block.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You have used some relevant vocabulary related to the task, such as 'refurbishment', 'renovation', and 'recycling bins'. However, there are some awkward phrasings and word choice errors, such as 'simply consist of' (should be 'consisted of') and 'area subjected to tables' (which is unnatural). To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more precise collocations and varied vocabulary to describe spatial changes, such as 'converted into', 'relocated', or 'expanded'. The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the sophistication required for higher bands.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

There are several grammatical errors throughout the text, particularly with verb tenses and articles. For example, 'the cafe was simply consist' should be 'the cafe simply consisted', and 'all kind of food and the drinks' should be 'all kinds of food and drinks'. You also have issues with subject-verb agreement, such as 'The stalls... are made' (should be 'were made' or 'have been made') and 'The toilet area also remain' (should be 'remained'). While the meaning is generally clear, these frequent errors indicate a need for more careful proofreading and a better grasp of tense consistency.
