Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response covers the main features of the cafe redesign, such as the outdoor seating, the barbecue stall, and the internal layout changes. However, the overview is weak; it lacks a clear summary of the most significant changes, such as the overall expansion or the shift in function for the rooms. The description is somewhat list-like, focusing on individual items rather than synthesizing the information into a cohesive report. To reach a higher band, you should provide a clearer summary of the overall transformation in the introduction or as a separate overview paragraph, ensuring that the most striking changes are highlighted rather than just listing details.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The response is organized into paragraphs, but the flow between sentences is often mechanical. The use of cohesive devices is limited and sometimes inaccurate, such as the awkward phrasing 'Following the side of serving area'. Referencing is occasionally unclear, making it difficult for the reader to track the spatial changes. The paragraphing is present but does not effectively group related information, such as separating external changes from internal ones. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'In contrast', 'Furthermore', 'Consequently') and ensure that each paragraph has a clear thematic focus.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. There is a reliance on basic verbs like 'got', 'have', and 'look'. Some phrasing is unnatural, such as 'different kind of changes was made' and 'entering the cafe, From outdoor seating'. While the meaning is generally clear, the range of vocabulary is limited, and there are errors in word choice and collocation that occasionally hinder the flow of the text. To improve, aim to use more precise descriptive language related to spatial changes, such as 'transformed', 'relocated', 'expanded', or 'converted'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Issues include subject-verb agreement ('major changes... have more space'), incorrect article usage, and awkward sentence construction ('The southern side of the cafe got a major changes'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with several comma splices and run-on sentences. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to lower the score. Focusing on basic sentence structure, subject-verb agreement, and correct punctuation will significantly improve the clarity and accuracy of your writing.
