Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers the main features of the cafe redesign, such as the conversion of the serving area and the addition of new amenities. However, the description is somewhat mechanical and lacks a clear, analytical overview. While you mention 'five major changes,' the report does not fully synthesize the information; instead, it lists changes in a somewhat disjointed manner. To reach a higher band, ensure you group information logically (e.g., internal vs. external changes) and provide a more cohesive summary of the overall transformation, rather than just listing individual features.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes repetitive or slightly unnatural, such as the frequent use of 'then' and 'in addition.' The transition between ideas is occasionally abrupt, particularly when moving from the internal changes to the external ones. The referencing is sometimes unclear, such as the sentence 'Which is separated into two parts,' which is a sentence fragment that disrupts the flow of information. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring sentences are complete will enhance the coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the precision required for higher bands. You rely on basic descriptors like 'major changes' and 'new amenities.' There are also some awkward collocations and word choices, such as 'recycle garbage' instead of 'recycling' or 'waste,' and 'converted into the hot meals,' which is grammatically imprecise. To improve, try to use more specific vocabulary related to spatial descriptions and architectural changes, such as 'relocated,' 'expanded,' 'partitioned,' or 'transformed into.'
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. For example, 'Which is separated into two parts' is a fragment, and 'there are many chairs and tables are located' contains a redundant verb. There are also issues with article usage and subject-verb agreement, such as 'in the inside of the cafe.' While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. Focus on proofreading for sentence fragments and ensuring consistent verb tense usage.
